Front Struts Issue

So i took my car into a dealership near by with the complaint of a noise that sounds similar to the purging of a pressurized line (tisss) being heard from the front end when going over bumps in the road like speed bumps. I told them it sounded like the front shocks/struts were leaking when they were being compressed. I also brought it in for a clunking noise being heard when you make a sudden sharp right turn with the wheel. The dealership had the car for 2 days and put me in a rental and when I came to get it they had no idea what it was, and had no idea if the tech did anything to it at all, they to told me they thought the tech might have addressed it. So I test drive and NOTHING IS FIXED! So i take it to another dealership with a good rep and within 10 minutes they take me in the shop and show me the gas traces all over both front struts! They told me the other dealership must of been idiots to miss that, and they order them for me. They also think the clunk could be some sort of bumper shield for the strut.

So my question is what is the normal life of struts? My car has 27000 miles on it and its a 09. Also any ideas on the clunking noise?

Hell, my SS/TC does that with 16k miles and has done it since I got it with 10k miles on it. Sounds like a compressing hydraulic piston to me. Struts work fine for me so I'm not too worried. When mine blow I'm going coilovers, but I don't plan on that being for quite a while.
