need help strut experts

I'll start from beginning. Had new struts put on front. I should have did them myself. After I get my car back I have a clunking noise. I call him and tell him I think the strut mount on front left is screwed. He replaces it. Clunking is still there.

I've replaced cab on driver side and was getting ready to do ball joint. As I was jacking the car up I heard the clunking! So I let it drop fast and it repeats. The noise is coming from the top of the strut mount. When I had control arm off that whole strut moved like that top nut wasn't tight but I do not know what to do.

I was going to put a vice grips on the rod loosen the nut and put some washers in there. Sound like a good idea 1st?

No I have done nothing except start changing other stuff until I narrowed the noise directly to that top mount. I've never done a strut before

Its not that complicated you have the strut connected to the endlinks, knuckle and the top with the 3 bolts. It could be that it wasnt seated correctly, or maybe something is loose from what i mentioned above

Found the problem. Should have just did them myself. Wrong nut was used with a impact. Treads are gone on strut. Thanks guys

Went to a shop he used the old nut and put it on the new strut and stripped all the threads and still put on the car. It was loose as hell. New strut fixed it.
