Preloading?

I read alot of people talking about preloading their frontend for track use but can't find any threads about what it actaully means or what it does for your suspension? Any help on what it is and why it helps?

There are 2 things you can preload. Either the springs in a coilover system, or the swaybar end links, if they're adjustable length. The end result is a car that will turn better one direction than the other. Don't mess with it unless you know what you're doing. Neither should be preloaded.

the chains acted as limiting straps preventing full extension. preloading is different. preloading is basically making the spring stiffer. if i am wrong someone please correct me. i dont want to give out false info.

it really works very well!!! take a peewee football stick it up there and inflate to 40-50 psi. jacks the rear up and you will have very little to zero squat!!!

U just shove it into the springs somewhere and then inflate?

Yup that's right. Jack the rear up so the spring is extended and have the football deflated and wiggle it in. Corners of the ball should be vertical. Lower the car back down then just inflate the football. I used to just leave them in the springs at all times. Just inflated them when I got to the track and deflated before I left.

I did I once. I wouldn't recommend it. Very very rough driving. Your basically driving around with no rear springs or shocks.
