it rattles going over rough roads? And if you turn the wheel slight left or right the noise goes away?

Steering column or intermediate steering shaft. Mine rattles as well just bought a new steering shaft but havent put it in yet. i got mine from g m p a r t s d ir e c t. c o m for around $100 shipped, but my other choices wouldve been Crateenginedepot.com. If it winds up being your steering column I saw quite a few on eBay for decent prices

more often then not it is either the steering motor and/or column.....there are plastic gears in the column, and the backlash between the gears will cause a rattle.

most of the time the intermediate shaft will make a "clunk" type noise when you turn the wheel.....most of the time you can get it to make noise even sitting still and turning the wheels.

And the steering shafts are also known to crap out quite frequently. The way I diagnosed my problem was I turned my car off jacked it up and turned the steering whelp back and forth. When under the car you can hear it originating right at the shaft can feel it to

Yea clunk is more of the steering shaft noise and rattle steering column but you never know people online are bad at describing sounds, that's why I mentioned both.

Yea, they do crap out a lot......I am a tech at a chevy place, and I've put a ton of those in also. One thing though, when you jack the vehicle up, you are taking all the load off the steering system.

Yes but my car it's so bad I can feel it right there with the car jacked up, but that's with the person shaking the wheel violently. I was supposed to replace my steering shaft today but since it was such a nice day i thought I'd live with it another week and take my dog to the dog park for a few hours.

It has 77k on it.And the sun roof will click while opening and when I close it it will click a few times and then I will have to help push it shut, then when it shuts all the way the motor will still keep trying to run with the butten pressed. Still have the power tran warranty but the other is from the bank I have the car from but it suppose to cover everything too.
