SS/SC steering - hydraulic or electric?

I thought that all Cobalt's had electric steering but I have an SS/SC "expert" telling me it's hydraulic.

Is he right?

Thanks.

I was about to say the same exact thing. lol
I don't think there is such a thing as a cobalt expert. 50% of GM Techs still haven't even seen in the engine bay yet.

the closest thing you'll find to an expert are the more experianced builders and cobalt owners on this site.

beleive me your much better off looking to anwser your questions on the site rather then anywhere else.

Yes I work for a Japanese company called Koyo/JTEKT now. We build the only EPS that I am aware of in the world, and it is installed on these models CURRENTLY

Chevy - Cobalt, HHR, Equinox

Saturn - Vue, ION, Skye

Pontiac - Solstice

Coming soon -

Nissan - Sentra - 2007

Toyota - Possibly the K-Platform = Solara, Camry, couple others.

Once Toyota adopts EPS (Electronic Power Steering) Expect everyone else to as well.

your missing the Malibu's, from my understanding, GM used the Malibu as there first car to test this system. either 03 or 04. I know I read this somewhere, when I was originaly looking for a car last year.

Yeah, I think he was confused by GM reverting to hydraulic for the G6 GTP.

The G6 also uses the electric steering as does the Malibu.

I'll even take you a step further. Not only is the steering system completely electric, it is also speed sensitive. And guess what controls the system? The engine control module.

http://www.chevrolet.com/malibu/features/

The malibu has EPA, Electronic Power Assist, its not the same. It still uses Hydraulic steering...

And the speed sensitive steering is in the SS model, the Other models have a "long stroke" where the speed sensitivity is BARELY there. And the tires don't hold the road as well because of this, trust me I know from experience I wrecked an LS ^^

According to Delphi, the Malibu uses Delphi's e-steer system which does not use hydraulic fluid.
