I got an 06 LT and have the drums... they are crap... I was thinking of painting them, and then thought about just doing the conversion myself... If it really is that simple I may do it. Anyone do a how to yet?

if you buy this kit or any kit your rear brakes would look beefd up so you will need to upgrade your front brakes as well, so youre looking at a $2500 project.

im thinking donor parts from cars with factory rear disk brakes with 4x100 bolt pattern

Gravana has one for you. Here is the link:

I have run these on several of our Gravana project cars and they work great!

im looking into this and was thinking
order aftermarket rear disc from a 4x100 car (manty many popular cars are 4x100)
need calipers
matching stainless braided brakelines for the calipers above (this would make sure i have the correct fitting for the caliper, are all brakeline to calipers the same?)
and to fabricate a bracket to mount these calipers (the hard part)

am i missing anything?

For what it's worth, I have done many rear conversions on both street and race cars. So far, it has never been less expensive to piece together something new or from another car at the junk yard. Especially when you consider the time it takes to properly design & build brackets that allow the conversion to function properly. Plus, you have to consider issues that can affect wheel fitment like hub diameters and thicknesses, caliper width and placement, etc.

I would rather buy something that has brackets that are designed for my car and a caliper/rotor/pad combination that is engineered to work for my car and it's size and weight rather than rigging something. After all, it is my brake system.

Then again, it does get exciting when your brakes fail diving into turn 11 at Sears Point trying to drop from @ 120MPH down to @ 30MPH...
