All This Talk About Tunning! Post your...

With all of this talk about HP tuners and related threads I have yet to find before and after dyno runs. So many people post about tuned whp and stuff like that. I would really like to see a thread in which shows a few things. Those things being Mods, Dyno run before tune numbers, and last but not least dyno numbers after tune. This would show alot of factors and help those woundering if they should get a tune or not. So post up your before and after numbers. This goes for any cobalts. I mainly want info on the LSJ because I have one but maybe make a Dyno Tune section for all three engine types? Who will be the first to post dyno numbers before and after! Logs would be great!

Edit Post: Question - With GMP stage II pulley, GMP exhaust, DP with highflow cat, GMP header would you gain any more whp and wtorq with a dyno tune or is the stage II GMP tune right where it needs to be?

Wow, this thread exploded. Must because no one has dyno proof or something. Either that or there is no tune better then the Stage II from GM? (being sarcastic) Or maybe all those people who say they can tune and have a custom tune that is badass is just lieing to make cash? *Shrug* Bump lets see the pro HP tuners can crank out more whp. I have heard alot of custom tunes go wrong and Pop goes the cobalt.

Here is a link to the before and after numbers from my tune. The first pull was my car stock, and the we tuned it and put on a cai. I think you will find this helpful, and should help you decide on a tune or not. Also just so you know, the guy who tuned my car has picked up the most hp on a straight tune. He is good at what he does and knows his stuff

Very interesting. One guy post with real life gains from a custom tune but its locked. Anyone else out there? From this info a cobalt with just 94 octane, and a CAI hitting up near 240hp.... Anyone else with a badass custom tune?

Would love to see the numbers from those tuners with a 2.9, and full bolt ons like exhaust, intake, header, DP, and highflow cat.

Let me see what I can come up with. Being in San Diego kind of puts me at a disadvantage, all my stuff in is Virginia.
Here is my time slip with 2.7, 60's, GMPP manifold, GMPP cat-back, Injen intake. I had 248whp and 240ft/lbs (on 20's)

here is the dyno slip and best run with only the stock injectors and GMPP manifold, GMPP cat-back, Injen intake.

its documented here and here

I went down to a 2.5, added a 3" ZZP downpipe and hi-flow cat and tweaked and tuned and came out with 278hp and 250ft/lbs. I wanted more torque and I tweaked some more and got 262hp and 261ft/lbs, CobaltBurst was there to verify, I have the dyno sheet at home. Not like it matter, I hit 16.5 psi during these runs and the belt started to slip. CobaltBurst also had his dipstick pop out....a precursor to his blown engine.

I documented everything I did, minus the the above here

if you want proof, you can ask the people about the cars i tuned for them. stock stage 2 tune, with a 2.8 and intake the car put down 263. add header, exhaust, with a stage 2 pulley, the car put down 262 with my personal tune. then changed to the 2.8 got more agressive with it. 275 fwhp. my daily driving map might be 250 to the tire, give or take a few.

bone stock the car ran 14.6@97 mph 2.1 60ft
h/e/i stage 2 pulley 13.70 @ 103 mph 2.0 60ft

i have not been back since i put the 2.8 back on the car. clutch hates me. so im being nice to it.

Good job guys, lets keep this thread going. From what I see, it seems well worth it to get a custom tune.

uh this was when i had stock internals and was using the SDS EIC (a real POS btw)

195.7WHP @ 5496 RPMs
211.3WTQ @ 4584 RPMs
Boost: 8.9PSI

SDS = Lean spool and then RICH AS HELL top end

It's a real piece of crap, the only thing you can do is turn 2 knobs, everyone should run away from it

edit: This was done on a mustang dyno

Mods are in my garage!

Here is the very first run and the final run.

Original Run:

3.9 Knock Retard
AFR 14.7

Last Run:

0.7 Knock Retard
AFR 11.6

*I also saw 16.69 psi @6,444rpm with this 2.9" pulley.

The first run

didnt like 18 deg of timing lol... also in need of some 60's

The final run

only a little kr .8 or so, but IDC is up over 120% so yeah... 60's
btw don't go by what the aem wb says... the aem wasn't hooked up that was just one of my PID's and for some reason always says 12.8 when nothing is connected. I can't get my newest dyno sheet off the shops website. I have to drive there to pick it up. I used to be able to get it off the site.
