'07 Ion 2.4 vs. '98 Eclipse GS

I was driving home last night and pulled up to a stoplight next to a 1998 Eclipse (I asked him what year it was after we raced) It had been debadged so I couldn't tell what trim it was, but he had the standard issue fart can, spray painted rims, lowering springs, and triple a-pillar gauges. (His car was a 5-speed and mine is an automatic)

I was fully ready to have my ass handed to me if it was a gst or gsx, but when we took off, I was out of there! This guy had spent all this money making his car look like a turbo, but forgot to actually do anything to make the car faster! At the end of first gear, he was at my back bumper, and at the end of 2nd (65-70) he was about 2 cars back. We did this 2 more times, with the same outcome. I pulled over to get some gas and he got out and asked me how I liked my new “Redline.” I told him I wasn’t even a Redline and I was automatic. He admitted defeat and said he had more work to do. I love when people don’t get angry and can admit there is always a faster car.

Um, why put a-pillar gauges on a n/a car? What are the gauges for, air/fuel ratio? Outside temperature? Rice factor?

I am not saying I surprised I beat a 140hp car, i just thought i was going to lose to a 210hp car. I will race anyone!

Maybe he bought the car that way or likes a-pillar gauges? A/F, Voltage, EGT, oil temp, there are a few things they could be, maybe he plans on going turbo and he got a good deal on the gauges.
