'08 2.2 G5 vs. 98 Monte LS

Ok so im approaching a red light and see an older body Monte Carlo riding my ass (looked like an 97 or 98...so i get over to the next lane so we would be at the light together and when we got to the light he revved his car once so i knew he waned to race. Light turns green we both step on it, he pulls ahead until about 30mph then i pulled ahead of him until around 70 then right after that he takes the lead by about a half of a hood length lead until we get to 100, i got up to about 108 before the speedo wouldnt go anymore and at that point we were dead even, we kept going for a little bit until we come about a 1/4 mile before then next intersection so i slowed down because cops liek to hide in the median right before the light and plus it was an intersection so i wasnt gonna take any chances going that fast through it.

It was a very even race. We were both next to each other the WHOLE time and none took a bigger lead more then a front fender length

Me: 2008 2.2 G5 SE Auto with K&N SRI, ZZP Header/DP combo, stock 2.2 exhaust
Him: 1998 Monte Carlo LS Auto 3.1L v6 160 HP, 185 Torque. Didnt sound like he had any performance mods like exhaust or intake

Exhaust is gonna be on August 20th..Im getting custom 2.5" Magnaflow...i figure if i had that when i raced the monte i wouldve definatly had the lead the whole time, it was that close.

holding down the brake, and hitting the gas at the same time, basicly getting ur rpms up, but do it just enough where the car is still sitting still but u have a nice rpm to launch from

and doing that when it turns green, slam the gas and let off the brake.

btw i rented one of those carlos, my 2.2 would destroy it no ***** at all

don't just try it. practice it. practice makes perfect when it comes to launching from the dig. you want to get good at this before you look like a noob trying it for the first time during a race.

you can actually floor the gas with the brake down. the autos have a 2500 stall. basically the torque converter stops sending power to the wheels at 2500 rpms (perfect launching rpm... at least for my car anyway). just dont keep it like that the whole time the light is red. do it as you see the other lights turning yellow.

whoa, senior member ftw!

2.2 should keep up or beat a 3.8L. I know it would kick my 3800 bonneville's ass. You might need a driver mod.

The L36 3.8 is usually good for at least mid 15 second pass in any car it was put in. What do the 2.2's run?

mid-high 15s with a good/decent driver... which is where quite a few stock 2.2s are as well. i think a stock 2.2 w/ manual would beat a stock 3.8, but not by much. a modded 2.2 vs stock 3.8 should be pretty easy.
