I here allot of people talk about the v6 genesis and how great it is but aren't the fastest ones right now the turbo 4 bangers? They are damn nice cars, but I wish an American manufacture would come out with something like that because I refuse to buy foreign cars.

no. The 4 banger engines are weak and fail if pushed too far.

The V6 can be boosted or run N20 with little issue.

Because the 2.4 is my daily and if my 3G GT V6 5 spd eclipse can take out an SC/SS thats stock then a 4th gen CERTAINLY COULD!

And those arent my only 2 cars. I have a 3rd as well. A stage 2 SS/SC could be a good race. But then again a 4th gen V6 manual with full exhaust would take out a stage 2 SS/SC.

Those are by know means light cars. The solstice and sky were the closest things we have had to them but now rear seat and no REAL coupe. I have always been a 4 cylinder turbo guy. My brothers have always been into the v8's and while fun I rather have a fast 4 banger than race car. I guess I am just an underdog kind of guy.

I never said a stock SS/SC would beat a 4th gen. GT Eclipse.
I said a GM stage 2 SS/SC would more than keep up with a stock 4th Eclipse. LOL at a 3rd Eclipse beating a stock SS/SC.

Not that hard to do. 3rd gens have decent top end. Aluminum flywheel and intake do help as well.

And stock 3g v6 5 spds are known to run 14.7-14.8's stock. They weigh similar to an SC and have similar power. So its going to come down to gearing and driver.

3rd Gen Eclipse 2800-3000lbs
Cobalt SS/SC 2900lbs.
3rd gen Eclipse V6 200-210hp
Cobalt SS/SC 205hp
3rd gen Eclipse Tq 205
Cobalt SS/SC Tq 200

Seems like a drivers race to me. Oh and yet I won.

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 0-60 mph 6.8 Quarter mile 15.1

2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 7.0 15.4

I have to call BS on 3rd gen v6 eclipses running 14's stock.. When i had my 98 neon r/t running 14.7 i pulled hard on my buddies white v6... 40-100 runs i would have 3-4 cars on him

@ magazine times.

Those same times you posted are from magazines that got a 13.6 out of a 390hp mustang cobra.
Or even a 12.8 out of a 540hp mustang.

So you dont doubt an SC running 14's even with the same hp and weight. Yet you doubt a 3rd gen running 14's? And if you ran a 14.7 and pulled hard on a manual 3rd gen v6 then he cant drive flat out. I have had no issue keeping up with mild bolt on 99+ gt mustangs. But then again ive been told im an aggressive driver and a good one. Ive hung in there with cars I really shouldnt of.

We have raced before.

I drove the cobalt, and lost.

Then I drove the eclipse, and won.

Maybe something is wrong with my car then, becouse Im telling you,

MY ss, can not beat a new eclipse GT.

its just one of those cars people think cant turn a decent time.
I mean a factory car that is capable of 13's off the showroom floor couldnt possibly beat an SS/SC/S2 car.... Yet they can. the 4th gens are heavy as hell. But have a good amount of torque especially compared to the LSJ. they may weigh 400lbs more but they also have 65ft tq more. On an S2 car they still have tq and hp over them. Granted less and its becoming more of a drivers race.

Eclipse GT manual
Altima Coupe 3.5 manual
Accord Coupe 3.5 manual

All three of those will put up a much bigger fight for an SS/SC than most people think. Problem is people usually dont race either of those 3 though the eclipse is the most likely. So when people do run across them the driver usually isnt that great of a driver. So its a kill for them. Or they raced an auto

You beat the SS/SC in your 3rd Eclipse because the Cobalt driver was sub-par. /thread! I ran a bunch of 14.2s-14.3s when my Cobalt was stock, others have done better.
