2.0 vs. Cooper S
2.0 vs. Cooper S
Was on my way home last Friday night, when a very nice Cooper comes up beside me. It was actually tastefully done: It was blue with white racing stripes. lowered, black and chrome rims, dual center exhaust that was loud HID's, and obviously some engine work (which you will know why in a sec.). he passed me, then slowed down. We were doing 60mph, when he downshifted and punched it. I know 60 is a sore spot for us, but I had no choice. I downed it to third and hit it too. He inched on me all the way, but he hit redline before me, so when he upshifted, and was still at 5500rpm; so i gained ground back until his front bumper was at the middle of my door, when we finally shut down. I was suprised he kept up like that, let alone inch on me! He never rolled his window down at the next light, so i don't know for sure what he's done to his car, or if he was butt hurt about the race.
After that, thus '05 Spec V fly's past me. At the red light, I was behind him. When the light turned green , I heard his engine screaming as he punched it, and I still came from behind and past him before I hit 3rd gear
....after he shut down, I let them pass me, and his friend shouted out the window, "That car is sick man..******* SICK!!" Then the driver gave me the thumbs up.

Actually they weigh in the 2800 lb range. believe me, this one was modded. Also, they are LESS wind resistant than our cars. It's not the size of the car, it's the shape of it that matters.
some coopers come with a package called the the John Cooper Works package that is Suprisingly fast i think they have a different supercharger and some other stuff, but yeah if done right the performance/exterior can look decent, but i dont think any thing can fix the interior appearance on thoes cars!
My friend has one but it's stock. I've been trying to race him ever since I got my car. He always makes up an excuse. I know i'd blow by him because he's stock but he's really good at shifting. He can row through gears like none other.

No I'm not a Fanboy.
The John Cooper Works Package bumps it to 200HP. I think it's a supercharger upgrade, intercooler upgrade, catback exhaust, ECU flash, and badging. Then there is a JCW intake that adds another 10hp if I remeber right.
Beware!

You're right. According to KBB: 2679 lbs

You're right. According to KBB: 2679 lbs..but the 168hp is crank, not wheel.
My best friend owns a cooper S and i that thing is pretty damn quick. i also really like the interior of the things, but im not a big fine of how it looks overall. mini also puts out some different kits that i have seen before that get those things up around 300 hp. i think i saw the kit for around 8k though. ill have to look for the post again.
Nothing wrong with the Cooper S in my books. I was at an autocross event this year and someone had one done up real nice. Cooper s's + hoosiers = Lookout on the autocross circuit. Perfect little racer. It would also make my garage look so much bigger...
Just to add something, I am almost positive the John Cooper Works S has a better, free flowing head to go with the other things you guys have stated. A dealer near my house had one prepped and ready for sale for $29,500. I don't think so! The works also puts down similiar numbers to the SS! Still a very cool car though!!!!
Sounds like the Cooper I saw out at Speedworld running low 14's to high 13's. I'm trying to remember which one was which tho. There was a red one w/ stripes and a blue one with stripes.
If you'd actually come out to the strip, you'd have probably raced him before.
