2005 Cobalt SS/SC VS 2003 SRT Neon
SO on saturday my fiance`s younger siters boyfriend comes over with his new ride and It's a silver 2003 SRT neon that he just picked up that day. On the back of the car was the mopar stage 1 badge . It was dark and I looked under the hood and saw an AEM intake and he also had a Borla exhaust on it. Now I know it had 215hp from factory and based on the spec from Mopar's website that states that stage 1 boosts it from 215 to240 and then add the intake for anouther 10 and then borla exhaust for anouther 10 an I think he would be getting like 260hp. Just wanting to know with my mods below if I should even think about racing him.
I took a ride in it and it was pretty fast.

There is no way youll beat him, You need a smaller pulley for that 3" doesnt do much and stg 1 by itself doesnt do much either, The Neons stage one wont do too much though however you can expect about 15whp from his intake and exhaust also the 03s are slower than the new ones. I think if it really is an 03 you might hang with him, but if you want to beat him your going to need at least a 2.8" and a tune.

Do you think if I put on a 2.9pulley with the GMPP exhaust then I might hang with or beat him? I think with the 2.9 you won't go past the 1005 duty and ruin the injectors.

why not ...
worse case scenario ...you lose and he goes off and bangs your future sister in law and tells her all about it ...

I think it'll be fairly close. You will not be embarrassed, but I do think you will lose- especially if he knows how to drive that car. It is pretty new to him, so the sooner the better for you.

Ehhhh drivers race I say, the 03 SRT-4's DIDNT come w/ the Mopar S1 like the 04+ SRT-4's so it could be a drivers race depend on how good you drive your car.....

Who knows bro, he does have the advantage for sure. Buy the conversion S2, so smaller pulley and tensioner. Get a CAI, 2.9 pulley and Catback!.... NO warranty issues and have a nice time kicking his ass. U wont make a fool of him (if he can drive good) but it should be a nice kill!
Enjoy

None of the SRT-4's came with Stage 1, it's not an option. The Borla exhaust is good for maybe 2-4hp and the intake in some cases has seen power losses compared to thestock airbox. Now if he has a stage 1 and a wastegate ($139 brand new) then he should be trapping 104-106MPH all day long, while retaining a practically stock look under the hood.

when can the duty cycle theories on the 2.8 be put to rest?
they can go to 120% without hurting anything, a 2.7 with a good tune will run on 42#
seriously.
as it is, i would think ud need the 2.8 and exhaust to make some noise in this race, eitherway you'll hang with him, depending on what none seen mods he has, but its still his race to lose until u up the stacks.

04-05 SRT's came with stage 1 injectors factory. 03 SRT's didnt. Stage 1 kit for 03 SRT's included injectors, Stage 1 for 04-05's didnt need to.
No year's came with the Stage 1 kits factory installed! Unless it was special ordered. Just a little heads up... 03's dynoed the same as any other years, 220-240whp. Only major difference was the injectors, and the lack of a LSD.
Quit bench ricing...racing and just do it at a track since this is the "Drag Racing" Section, not War Stories...

Just like self posted only difference was no LSD and smaller injestors, both the 03's and 04-05's ran the same times, tranny is identical, only other sifference was the factory tires, but I'm sure he's already got different tires on there.
