2005 Cobalt SS GM stage 3 on 100 octane an 7250 redline

So it's a nice day and I put the Stage 3 ECU back into the car and decided to put the 100 octane in it since I was empty. I only put $40 in it since it was like $5.39 a gallon . Put me at about 1/2 tank.
Took the car up on M53 to Imlay and I was hoping to see something to run but no luck.
I was on the way back going south bound on M53 and I'm doing about 80mph (oh by the way I was getting 31.5 mpg on 100 octane at 80mph, hahah) and I see this older guy in a red C5 coming onto the expressway at about 32 mile road and he was about 8 cars behind me with the top down. I tried to let him catch back up. By the time we hit hall road on M53 he was behind me. We get past Hall and I down shift at around 70mph into third and stomp on it(hoping he would follow) well no luck. So I proceeded to come up on some kid in a Saleen 2003 ish body style. Some kid driving it. I slowed down trying to get him to bite. I down shifted again into 3rd and no luck. So I though my day was done so I exited off to Mound exit and to my surprise so dd the red vette. I decided to go to head to the Mound and the round about he follow . I get out of theround about and he is right on my butt and I nail it in second. He was right behind me till around 80 and backed off. We pull up to the light at 19 mile ish and mound and he next to me in the far left lane. I have about a half car on him . So I'm thinking he does not want to go or else he would have lined up. The light goes green and we take off . I eased into the gas because I could see out of the corner of my eye that he is not nailing it. Then about 10 mph he stomps on it. Me being in first I nail it and bounce it off the rev limiter in first and I'm at his back bumper . I chirp the WINTER TIRES going into second and start realing him in. My nose is at his middle of his door. The light at 18m miler had some people in my lane so we coast through the inter section at around 80 while in 4th gear. I get back to next to him and we slow it down to about 40-45 mph and he looks over and gives me the thumbs up and nails it. I was in second so I nail . (no honks with this guy) so he gets the jump on me and my nose is at the front of his passenger door.Never leaves me and we shut it down by about 3rd gear and 6000 rpm so about 105 I think.
We then slow down to 40 mph in second and I decided to do the honk method. On three we nail it again and he gets the jump again and I stick with his front door around 108 we shut it down and there is a cop waiting for the light to go green at 16 mile and mound. We both brake down to 45 and I turn onto 16 and follow him.
I roll down the window and I say what year . He said 2004. I said is it stock and he said yep. I said not bad for a cobalt huh. He said yea this is corvettes baby brother huh. I said yea I guess. I told him I had Stage 3 and I thanked him for giving me the opportunity to run against him. We went on our way and that was it.
Kinda disappointed to hear that it only does the quarter mile in 13.6
I'm guessing I'm at around 13.8-14.0 then .
I told him wait till I get a 50 shot. He said yea then I won't race you.hahha
I'm also guessing that I would have been as fast or faster if it was not for the stock clutch

you cant estimate your 1/4 mile time when going from a roll with a car based on what a website says.
ive seen MANY Stg 2 SS/SC's run low 15/high 14's. But it could very well be the location.
Depending on the car, you could keep up with a higher HP car from a roll, vs a dig(drag)
nice story though.

Have to get a new clutch before I race from a dig. Don't want to be embarrassed by a 15 second car. I sort of have a nightmare where a 4 cylinder 15 second 4 door pulls up next to me and I decided to blow his doors off but to my horror he stays with me and actually beats me because the stupid stock clutch won't hold the added power.
Soooooooooo true. I've posted a similar statement on here a while ago. Roll races are all about who has more pick up and go. Dig races are about traction, and all the physics that follow. We're supercharged, we can kick some major ass from a dig. I may only do 13.8 in the quarter, but I garauntee I'll spank most mid 13 second cars from a roll. Race from a dig... it's the great "decider".
Dig races are more about tourqe(sp) and the ability to put that power to the ground (traction and launching) Going from Rolls is more about Power and gearing, so IMHO if your going from a roll keeping up with the vette it would put you in the same ball park as his HP to weight ratio
still whatever its worth its still a great story that a) your car can keep up with a C5 from a roll B) an old guy in vette would race c) you both had mutual love for GM cars and gave props
all in all great story
congrats on the race. all the ss's here in or around the okc area are stock or just a few have major work done... while i was stock i raced a few ss's from a dig. our cars are easy to go from a dig if you no how to drive, and it was no luck for the stock ss against a stock 04 gto... my son had a srt4 with a stg 1 and he could not pull me from a dig or a roll. now my mods are longtube headers, full 3 1/2" custom mandrel bent exhaust, comp cam package with a 238/248 @ 50 600/605 112 lsa.... with the stock clutch haveing 65000 miles on it i smoke the clutch thru 4 gears and still get a 12.70 @ 109...
