Cobalt SS v STi then Legacy
Rolling up the road saw a speck in the rearview mirror quickly gaining. Not in a hurry, had the cruise on, so let it fly by. Black Cobalt...wing, etc. Not bad looking 'cept the wing flopped even more than the STi wing.
He slows down, taps the brakes, pulls up alongside, gives me a thumbs up which I return. Then, does this little swervy motion right next to me. Not kewl. I slapped it into 4th, and put about 2 buslengths on him, then 5th and let off around 130 or so. My exit was coming up, so I pulled off. He takes the same exit.
I'm turning left, he's turning right, pulls up next to me. Me... Him... Me...
He rolls window down, I follow suite. He says "If I hadn't of missed 4th, it would've been a good race". Me..."Are you serious?". Him "Well, I've pulled on stock STi's before, and you don't sound stock (I'm Cobb stage 2). I say "How about running against a Legacy". He says "Whats a Legacy". I give him directions and we agree to meet in 15 minutes.
I pull up in the Legacy, he's waiting. We roll out onto the highway. We agreed to a slow roll pull, so I let him set it up. We're rolling about 20 or so and he 3 beeps it. I accelerate , pull about 2 car lengths, shift up, another 2 car lengths, shift up, and just keep pulling. Not really shifting aggressively either.
He then wants to go from a dig. I'm like...um...ok. We do it, I let him launch first, and pull a nice AWD burnout, jump past him, and it's much worse after that than the first race.
Just thought I'd post this after I told a friend who then forwarded a vid of some Cobalt owner with 3 folks in the car claiming he hung with an STi. With some good mods, the Cobalt should be a good roll runner, much like the SRT4 is. From a dig....a long way to go. Got a friend pushing 450 to the wheels in his SRT4 and he still can't get past me in the 1/4. Lots to be said for 1.6/1.7 60 footers

no such thing (yet) as a ss/sc balt stage 2 so dunno what to say bout the race in general just that the dude was a moron for swerving next to you. if I got next to an evo or sti I would like to have a go at it but def. would not swerve to get attention

04 STi 12.9@104 (stock)
304 AWHP/341 AWT (stage 2)
05 Legacy GT Limited 13.3@102 (stock)
283 AWHP/329 AWT (stage 2)
who cares if you beat a stock ss/sc look at your 1/4 mile times for either and hp/tq
its not even close either way nice kill, a stock ss/sc would take a stock legacy gt though in a roll race

Nice kill, no surprise though. Stock SS vs. heavily modded Sti, not really worth posting about, especially your first post. We've got enough trolls coming through here as it is. Just be cool with everyone and you should do fine here.
Welcome to the forums.
As far as modded SS's being good roll racers, the stock ones arent bad either. I pulled a couple lengths on an Evo the other night on the highway and mine is nearly stock. There goes everyone's theory that a stock Evo would destroy a Cobalt on the highway as well as from a dig.

Sorry for that being my first post. Not trolling (ok...maybe a litte. ), just a kind of knee-jerk reaction to the first guy I raced and the guy on the internet..."this is SO going on the internet". Didn't even have a clue that it wasn't an STi, as was pretty obvious in the vid.
Like I said, the cobalt is just in it's infancy. With Chevy's commitment to that engine and their current and future line of power mods, I'm pretty impressed. Much like the SRT4, the Cobalt has a very solid block, both bottom and top end. Should be easily capable of 400+ HP with the right tuning and turbo/support mods setup.
FYI though, I'd be careful about saying a stock Cobalt could take a stock Legacy from a role. A stock Leg easily pulls on a stock WRX, and it's aerodynamics are much better to boot. I trapped around 99 MPH stock.
I guess I could flash a stock map if someone wanted to run against a Leg with TBE as the only mod. It'd be interesting.
Cheers!

Welcome to the forums. Yea Stock cobalt ss has no change against modded Legacy's and STI's. They would get eaten alive from a dig, and from a roll would definately lose.
I have an SS/SC with only exaust. I took a Legacy GT with an intake. We pulled up to a light and talked and he was like "wow those are that fast?" He said he was looking at them before he bought his legacy. I didnt bust his ass but a cleanly walked him up to about 110 from a 30-40ish roll.
STI... I havent had a run in with a stock one, but I did run into one who had all types of **** done to his car and sounded so ruff. I floored it like a ricer and let him play catch up and he was pulling but he could never get fast enough to cut infront of me. It really wasnt a race more or less all stop and go, but for being modded I wasnt impressed. A firehawk can give me a head stard and catchup and pass, the STI couldnt.

LS1 Firehawk > STi from a roll.
An LS1 F-body should trap a few mph higher than an STi, stock.

Interesting but I have 2 buddies with STI's. One is bone stock and the other has Cobb Stage 2 throughout. (same as you yb normal) Me in the Stock SS, we did a roll from 30mph to 100mph against the stage 2 and he didnt even get a car length on me. (Yes we went from a dig and it was ugly.) After the race he just smiled at me and said you lucky **** your car kept up and I was shifting perfect. I am nobody to brag or I should avoid this thread but hell if you dont believe ill give you his number and you ask him. While your at it you can talk about your STI. I guess we like being underated.

STI's are only like 240 - 250 to the wheels. many cobalts SS are 220-230 stock. IM guessing the STI may even weigh more (should since all wheel drive) so we really are close in speed from a roll. With mods its a different story, but no stock STI or Legacy should own a stock SS period. STI may walk us a little, the Legacy GT should get owned.
Legacy wieghs about 3500 LBS and has about 220 to the wheels.
Please keep in mind this is all mentioning roll races, chances are both would take us from the line pretty easily.

As they say folks, anything can happen on the street. I don't doubt it for a second that many folks on here have kept up with or beating stock STis and Legacys (or even modded ones). Hasn't happend to me though.
You'll have to pardon me though when I see some of these statements though. My stock STi trapped at 103.9 (ok...call it 104). Are any of you at those figures stock? Trap speed is a good indicator of rolling race outcome IMHO, which is why I kind of shrug when I hear a stock cobalt keeping up or beating a stock STi. A cobb stage 2 STi traps anywhere from 106-108. I highly doubt a stock Cobalt will keep up with that. Now of course, getting down to a 12.4/5, which a stage 2 STi can do, is going to be a bit difficult for the Cobalt.
My long term predicition is that once the engine mods, chasis, and tire setups get sorted out for your platforms, you'll have a number of low 12 high 11 rides on this board.
At that point, I'll just have to race you in the snow
BTW...this seems like a pretty kewl site. Fairly mature in comparison to some of the other youth oriented boards. Kudos!!
