ls3 c6 vs me
It was swatted away by an 18 wheeler in the pouring down rain. See how far back the tire is? The axle was ripped out of the transmission, the transmission case was cracked, the engine block was cracked at the bell housing, the firwall was buckled along with the driverside floor board, front uni-body & frame was bent, car was also twisted an inch sideways from its centerline from the windshield to the front bumper. Along with all the rest of the crap you can see and figure our on your own like the fender, and hood etc etc. Mom spent the night in the ER and 2 more days in the hospital before she came home to my house cause she could hardle move to get around or take care of herself. What you see there was over $11,000 worth of damage causing the car to be totaled.
One TC owner posts a win over something then here come the rest...
Smarter purchase?
Who cross shops the two? Vette's can get in upwards of 30 mpg highway, their insurance is pretty similar as I have heard they are pretty cheap because they mostly aren't driven by high school kids like a cobalt. Then you have to dump a lot of money in the balt just to equal a stock vette performance. Oh, and the crash safety of the vette > balt Look at what the structure of the vette is made with.
Oh, and that last part is called power; get why people like V8's???

I cross-shopped the two, as well as many other cars. This was around Nov-Dec of last year, so Vettes were going pretty cheap at the time. I basically started wide and narrowed the search more and more until I settled on the TC. The Vette didn't have a way to stick my roadbike on it either (no bumper), and it wouldn't fit in the trunk.
In the end, from a money standpoint, you've got the smarter purchase. All maintenance, mods, insurance, and gas are more... and that's after you pay twice as much. Yeah a Vette is a Vette, but overall for what you get I feel the 'Balt is a smarter purchase.
I test drove some 2005/2006 Vettes when I was car shopping. I was surprised by how... dull... it was. By that I mean, you pop it in second the engine makes a deep rumble and you're already at highway speed... no struggle, no crazy sounds... it does it so easily that it's almost anti-climactic if that makes any sense.

I know what you mean about the anti-climatic aspect though. The Corvette is a very different car than these Cobalts. You may have been in a mushy stock suspension car, which I don't care for either.
Or, you may not be used to a car that has a great deal more control on the road and is actually easy to handle at high speeds.
I remember taking my first Vette to 165 on the highway late at night. I couldn't believe how quiet and stable it was.
I was always use to the car dancing a little and the wheel jiggling in response to suspension travel/bounce.
