Me vs. Modded STi

Alright, about a year ago or so I ran across this STi out near where I live. I know he has a FMIC, Exhaust, Intake and BOV. I don't know about anything else but I am sure he has some stuff done to it.

My mods are in the sig.

Now, about a year ago i come across this STi and decided to try and go at it with him. He completely destroys me. Easily had me by about 5 to 6 cars.

So here it is one year later. I am driving home and I see these really bright blue headlights coming up fast behind me...I make my turn and I see him cross over 3 lanes of traffic and turn where I turn. I keep driving normal though because I want to see who/what it is. So I am driving along and he fliues by me. It's a silver Subi. So I drop a few gears and catch up to him. We get to where the road opens back up into 4 lanes but we are stuck behind some cars although we quickly got around them. All the while I am still behind him. So he sees his chance to get into the next lane with no other cars around and he guns it. I do the same. At this time I start closing the gap on him and I am about a half a car behind. As I continue to pull on him the lane I was in cleared and I got back into that lane. I start pulling on him and now I am about a bumper ahead of him. As I shift into 4th I continue to pull on him and shut it down right as I begin to see both of his headlights in my rear view mirror. Which I guess is about what, a car or so?

Was a good race and his car sounds bad ass too. And I was actually surprised to see my car pull on him cause I was timid once I realized who it was.

Sadly I don't have any video, I was by myself and I don't think he had anybody either or I would post it. But that made my night.

good story. Very similar to a story like mine. I race a buds srt with a crap load of mods and he beats me by like 5/6 cars. I get a tune, and race him again, he only beats me by like 1.5 cars.

I still have yet to run a SRT-4. I ran one a long time ago when I first got my car. But since then have not run one. I see them all the time but they are always heading the opposite way....lol

if those are his mods... I'm not surprised at all... BOV's on STI's and WRX's really hurt performance... intakes are not really any better... and if he just had a fmic and a stock turbo... its lag city!! The only good thing I see is the exhaust...

And like I said earlier, I don't know what ods he has other than what I saw and heard. He also has a C/F hood and rims. (I saw him again today) But I was still shocked...lol

That's the thing. All the SRT-4's I see are heading in the opposite direction than I am. I ran one back when I was stock and he beat me. And all he had was an exhaust. I know those things are fast as hell. lol

I know right, who wants a cooler denser charge? FMIC's on VF39's aren't bad. A FMIC on my stock turbo WRX produced BETTER throttle responce and more pull without changing a thing in the Power FC. I would agree on a USDM WRX that the TD04 turbo probably would suffer from a FMIC, but not an STi.

Not all BOV's hurt STI's cause my buddy has a recirculating BOV and that actually improves performance on them.. Its the normal BOV's that dont do **** on a stock one..

The stock one is a recirculating BOV. Some people do get to the point where they need a new recirc BOV, but the stocker isn't bad at all. I personally don't like VTA BOV's but they aren't as bad as they're made out to be.

honestly a FMIC on a stock turbo sti really isnt needed.... it doesnt hurt that much but its not really needed... the stock one is adequete enough for the stock turbo... i mean if ur racing the car for long periods like circuit racing then u wont get heat soaked .... but its really just do u want to waste the moen y on a FMIC when u can do the same thing wit the stock turbo....

a full exhaust, intake, BOV(which isnt needed on stock turbo), and tune u really dont need a FMIC bc u wont be makin that much power... maybe 315awhp

It isn't needed, but it is nice to have and doesn't hurt performance like posted above. I do some sliding and HPDE events and the old TMIC was definitely a heat soaked mess. Does the average owner need one, no.
