Why is everyone asking about mods? The HHR SS runs damn near a 15 flat in the 1/4.

Probably auto unless the manuals are finally hitting dealerships.

BTW, the since they're now required to be rated at the crank, the de-tuned engine in the auto cranks out LESS horsepower than a stock LSJ by about 10hp.

I don't understand how it's a 15 second car

Cobalt SS : 2951lbs + 240hp = 12.29 power to weight ratio
HHR SS : 3242lbs + 260hp = 12.46 power to weight ratio

It SHOULD do mid 14's

Read the post above yours... maybe that will help you figure it out.

STOCK Cobalt SS : 2951 with driver? (2830 without) + 250-255 hp = 11.8 lbs/hp
AUTOMATIC HHR SS: 3242 (with driver? without? don't know, haven't seen one weighed) + 240 hp = 13.5 lbs/hp

That's quite a difference. I can definitely believe an auto is a 15 second car.

I agree with this statement. the balt T/C will be a force.
did you guys see the thread about the person from GM that said they won't offer stage kits for the cobalt because the tranny is maxed out with the stock power? if that is true, i doubt we'll see many fast cobalt tc's. between tuning nightmares, and having to spend a few grand on a new tranny, would you really buy that car to mod? when all is said and done, you're going to spend about 30,000 just to be able to mod the car, and still have stock power.

that's assuming the email from the gm rep was legit of course.

Needs a trans tune OR a B&M shift + and I bet those times drop a little. Remember the auto Cobalt loses almost a full second in a 1/4 with a trans tune.

Because no one knows if the transmission is the issue.

but the gm rep said that they will not release stage kits because the transmission can't hold the extra power.

THE HHR IS HEAVIER AND LESS AERODYNAMIC, SO ITS NOT THE BEST COMPARISON

And GM reps are all that reliable, especially this early in the game.

Kinda not really at all man .

HHR SS curb weight : 3250
2008 Cobalt SS/TC : 2950

Thats a fairly substantial weight difference . Im posting GM times because , well , its all ya got to go by at this point . GM claims a 5-speed HHR SS is capable of a 14.8@98.5 mph 1/4 mile . For the 08 Cobalt SS , GM claims a 14.1@102 ....thats a pretty sunstantial difference too . Those time were taken from GM's press release data for both cars off GM dealerworld .

Well I believe that this dude had no clue what he was doing in his brand new car. He obviously didn't know how to use the no lift shift or drive for that matter because this hhr ss is a pretty mean vehicle. We will see when my dad gets his and then ill post some results. (My dad can drive ridiculously cuz hes had so many cars ie porsche, roadrunner, charger you name it)

Question... Has anyone ever dyno'd an HHR SS auto to confirm it indeed has less power then the manual?

GM could just "Say" it does. It's like our LSJ's only have 205hp from the factory

hmm ok well since you don't know what an hhr ss runs your comment is void. Also just because it has more bhp does not make it faster. there are other variables.
