is it true that with the 6spd LS1.. you are only at like 1500 rpms at 80 mph?

 

Its crazy, my friends A6, C6 Corvette gets 29-30 mpg on the highway and he has a heads and cam pakage on his and it puts down 470rwhp. Thats even with romping on it a couple times.

 

I think at 65 maybe its around 1800 if i remeber correctly.

 

Almost, but you have to remember the camaro's and trans ams have TWO overdrives, fifth and sixth gear.

6th gear is absolutely useless for anything other than saving gas on the highway and fifth isn't far behind.

1-4 are the only "usable" gears.

 

i beg to differ please search through some vids on youtube of a 700hp vette running threw 5 gears

6 spd GTO's have two overdrives too....

I think at 75 I'm at like 1600 RPM in 6th.....

I belive he was saying the Corvette continuned hauling ass even through 5th.

Hell even in my GTO a run through fifth on the interstate is still impressive.

yes but you are refering to a car with 700hp...thats a little different than a 300hp ls1.

Same thing with the GTO cody...it has 400 hp. That would help in 5th...but it is still an overdrive gear.

With enough HP 5th would be "usable"...but 6th is a no go...that gear just screams "gas milage"

Well, if it makes any of the LS1 lovers happy, I'm bout to put the Cobalt building on hold for now cause of her being my daily driver and me needing MUCH MUCH more power. lol...AND......I'm putting an LS1 into my 93 S10 Blazer. MUAHAHA!! My local speed shop guru talked me into building a pretty nasty sort sleeper 4 door 2wd S10 blazer. We looking at at least 11's all day with a mildly built LS1 and on the fence about a Turbo addition too. I'm pretty excited to say the least
