ran a solstice gxp last night

well last night we had out gm sport compact meet up in orange park, the guy with the solstice came out again. after a fun filled night of shooting the breeze and grabbing some grub we decided to go play a little.

we did two roll races from 40mph. the first race i got a little jump on him and in the end had about a car on him. the second race was the exact opposite, he got the jump on me and had me by about a car in the end. His mods as far as i know are just exhaust, mine are in my sig.

i noticed on the second race that from 5000rpm to 7000rpm i would start reeling him in but when we would both shift his would just start walking me in the lower rpms till i got back to about 5grand. The cobalt seems better up top and the gxp down low.

It was a fun race. we didn't get a chance from a dig however i'm pretty certain after watching him launch a few times he would have handed me my ass, that thing launches hard while mine just spins like hell.

LOL! Thats is the only thing I hate about FWD cars! Launch hard the weigh transfers to the rear and the tires go POOF!

yeah it sucks, with the front drive cars i've owned the balt shifts the hardest. feels like the sucker is angling itself for an orbital launch or something. if i could stop it from doing that it would launch better.

RWD and full tq at 2500-5000rpms helps a bit . Stock i've seen 1.9-2.0 0-60 times low 14 1/4 times but the auto i saw was trapping under 100 (99-97). But that sounds like the hahn turbo sols vs gxp races, gxp whould get them off the line everytime, but the hahn would chase it down, 98 traps vs 103-4

he had taken it to the track before he got his exhaust installed. he said his best run was a 13.9 stock. its a sweet little car.

those gxps and sky redlines are some very nice cars, i want to drive one real bad. i miss that low end torque feeling, and the fastest rwd car i ever got to drive was a 02 mustang gt which gets walked on by my slowbalt

Keep in mind also the GXP will suffer the same lack of power all new GM cars do early on in mileage. One with 1000miles will be much slower than one with 5000miles.

Even my N/A GTO keeps getting stronger.

I drove a SKY REDLINE and a few GXP's and it was pretty obvious that the ECM was playing with top end power.

Man sounds like you had a good time... I still need to make it out to the GM meets out there in Orange Park one day. Just to lazy to cross the river I guess.

yeah we had a pretty good time. you should come across the river! you might like it on this side!

he has a few thousand miles on the car, it runs great. with how even both were it makes me wonder how well the balt would run with a turbo instead of the supercharger.

on the race i was losing we were shifting at about the same time. when we would shift he would start pulling, then at about 5000rpm i would catch back up then we would shift and he would start leaving again. i imagine this was how it was with the race i won but i was to busy watching the tach and not my mirror.

Good races. I'm glad someone raced one and posted it. I'd like to see the results of a stock versus stock race. I think the solstice/sky would win but I'd like to see how the SS/SC would fair.

Hey, you know I'm just kidding.

BTW, you will have the car back by November right? Cuz if you do, I think I'll make a little run up from Fort Lewis to check it out before I gotta do my coast to coast move to Florida. Thats if your not sick of everyone drooling over it by then.

The reason most likely is because the GXP uses a twin scroll turbo setup which probably has tons more torque than you do it spools up faster and probably reaches top boost at like 2500-3000 rpms.

2.0L RWD Turbo Ecotec is just pwnage... i want a GXP so bad... but i can't stand convertables... If only they put that motor/drivetrain in the cobalt...

it was a very interesting post. thanks for sharing the info!

I know.

If I don't have my car done way before November, those tears will be real.

i remember those days! we had a good time man, he'll be at other meets for sure so you'll get a chance to run him. His exhaust is loud and sorta raspy. i've never really heard one that sounds like that one before. i doesn't sound bad but when you cruising you can tell when he's on the gas and when he isn't.
