Stock SS/TC vs modded GTO LS2
actually it was a bone stock TC. and no **** a GTO is faster in the 1/8 mile but why dont you find someone with a stock TC and stock LS2 GTO and have them race in a 1/4 mile because I have seen no proof of one of those yet. until then I won't change my mind the Cobalt was gaining on him at the end, with an idiot driver, with the GTO having a couple mods. Prove me wrong, with footage.

Wow, another straight line race... I feel the pain too. I honestly was expecting a much bigger loss for the TC..... lol
And yeah, lots of dummies here with nothing to do but take shots at a cobalt...

if you dont like Cobalts then GTFO? i argued my point the best i could and 1BADSS/SC laid out the facts and well the Cobalt loses in a 1/4 mile. I didnt say it was faster, just said it would be a good race interesting to see. I am still curious though how a roll or highway run would be, maybe the Cobalt might pull away eventually? I'd like to see a video. So far its just been 1/8 1/4 mile drag races where the Cobalt clearly is beaten. Don't be gay and flame about rolls or highway runs. Then I could just say the Cobalt rapes the **** out of the GTO in a road course. They each have their ups and downs and the GTO wins in a straight line 1/8 1/4 mile. I still want to see that highway race.

this video wasnt me. i found it on youtube. also if you watch the video closely again you will see that the GTO STOPS losing the cobalt and the cobalt starts to slightly catch up BEFORE the trap. look closely, there wasnt much of it but it did happen and im PRETTY sure the driver of the GTO didnt just let off to see if the cobalt could catch up, that would be dumb. either way the cobalt got murdered off the line and with the GTO's torque was so much more. it would be a close race if this were a 1/4 mile and the driver of the Cobalt knew what the HELL he was doing. At least close your goddamn windows. He probably had his A/C on too. Chances are the GTO may still end up winning but I think its cool that the Cobalt starts to reel in the GTO, slowly, even if its lightly modded.

BTW OP, you do know the drag race ends at the white line right?

See, unlike the SS/TC, the GTO will not run out of steam up top. The SS/TC has a small turbo designed for instant boost and low end power. This is the reason its dual scroll, and smaller in size. GM designed it small because the general populus doesnt like turbo lag ( even though bigger turbos are faster ).
Once u start getting into the upper mph's that GTO is going to shine. Being a 6 speed also helps too.
Either way the SS/TC = good bottom end power. The GTO = good top end power. On the highway its a GTO's race. From 40-100 its more in favor of the SS/TC, but the GTO will still yank it in the end.
Thats what 99% of people with power do. Thats how 99% of people race.

At my altitude, a stock Cobalt SS/TC will pose problems for a stock LS2 GTO which loses alot of power up here, while the hair dryer greatly helps the Cobalt.
So DA at any given part of the Country is a factor in all of this.
My GTO when it was stock went a best of 14.3@97mph at a DA of 7000ft.
Took the GTO to Area51 Raceway in Roswell New Mexico, the DA was at a friendly 5300ft and the car then went 14.19@100mph...
The stock GTO will suffer a greater power loss as the DA increases as opposed to the turbocharged Cobalt, making for a more even race.
Personally, I have never been impressed with this 'LS2 is a topend beast' way of thinking, but I am sure my judgement is skewed because up here, it doesn't have the top that others experience at much lower elevations. Turbocharging is ideal in the higher altitudes.

The whole topend thing started with the LS1's and their higher rpm power band compared to the previous generation LT1. Torque peaked higher as well as the ability to rev more freely. Many a times a LT1 would "hang" with a LS1 through the 1/8th with it's plentyful torque down low but after that the LS would continue to pull where the LT would start to fall off. Since it has evolved to all the LS series of motors, with the LS7 being the most notorious on the highway but the other LS motors still being a force to reckon with. Gone are the days of peak torque at 2500 rpm and much more torque then horsepower N/A, when you move the power band higher so goes the motor/cars characteristics.
Another big factor as you know with the GTO's being more a highway car is the lack of a tire out back. Inhibiting the car from launching with much authority on a small tire and have a peaky power band turns the car more into a highway car then 1/8 mile car. Plus having big lungs (large displacement) keeps the car moving strongly into a 100+ mph where a smaller displacement car starts to have to fight more with its lack of raw power.
These are all just things I have learned and experienced with the LS motors, and they do live up to their calling.
Tyler
obviously. maybe you just didnt see the white line.
What video is this? Either way you guys talking **** about my NA 2.4 havent read any of my posts in the Advanced Mod section. In a few months my little NA will be faster than most of your supercharged and some of your turbos. I'm putting the M62 in my car by December and putting several mods on it pushing it over 300whp. And i'm working on my RWD conversion next summer using a Sky/Solstice 2.4 chassis with the help of some people like VictoryRedSS and Hunterkiller and a few others.
taking the LS1 out of my dads dirt raced/wrecked Camaro SS and putting it in my 240SX. I know how grand LS motors are.

After an hr of watching 11+ second cars, Im ready to move on...
And Im fine with the power my car holds down, does enough damage on course for me.
When I get serious about racing, I wont be dumb enough to go FWD....
Doesn't mean it's more exiting thats for sure. Just easier. As for power, you drive a fwd car too.. Who are you kidding here... Your nothing serious yourself all things considered, and your opinion really doesnt mean too much when it's clouded by the maturity of a 12 year old. "those with power".... settle down herc.. you have to gut that bus and do a lot more work before you can run anything serious.

I am not a fan of GTO's, but how can this be seen as a victory for the cobalt in any way?....it got wrecked by every measure...
And who races at the track with the windows down, music blasting and a passenger?...ridiculous driver

Nothing serious? LOL. Go drive in circles. I make more power and have the mods to launch better times than u.
Im sorry, youre in the wrong section where people who really race are. Maybe you should request youre very own twisties section! This is a straightline discussion. Take ur non-straight ways elsewhere.
and its spelt "exciting" not "exiting".
Hehehe, yeah, I'll get right on it.
Just cause you can beat a pretty much stock tc, doesnt make you anything worth while. And like I said, come out on the track and that lump will get spanked. You throw a lot of weight around for the car you drive...
Oh btw, I can give a flying fk if my spelling offends you. Its a chat forum..
The LS2 GTO is good car, I dont mind them at all. Would much rather have one than a caliber thats for sure.

Dont try to change the subject. I, and we dont care about how u drive left for however many minutes like a damn gerbil running on a wheel.
I didnt ask if u cared whether ur spelling offended me or not. Im just pointing out how u lack the ability to spell correctly, and make excuses because u ACTUALLY dont know how to spell.
This is what I say all the time! I can take on ferraris! I HAVE A FLUX CAPACITOR IN THE GLOVE BOX!
