No it doesn't the renault megane r26r does since june of 2008 the cobalt record only lasted a few months ,but the renault is a limited edition 450 made and a carbon fiber hood and had no back seats basicly stripped of 123 kgs it ran 18 mins 17 secs Nürburgring it had a lot of suspension mods also.

To achieve this result, the car goes without a certain number of comfort-related features, including:
* the rear seats and seatbelts,
* airbags (except driver airbag),
* automatic climate control (available as an option / manual climate control standard),
* rear wiper and wash,
* foglamps,
* headlamp washers,
* the majority of soundproofing material.
Other components that have been modified with a view to reducing weight and optimizing driving ergonomics are:
* the carbon bonnet (a saving of 7.5kg),
* polycarbonate quarterlights and rear screen (a saving of 5.7kg),
* carbon seat shells and aluminium frame (a saving of 25kg),
* six-point harness belts,
* titanium exhaust line (available as an accessory),
* specific lightweight body equipped with roll-cage mounting brackets.
Something tells me this car was built just to make a record..... Its basically a fast noisy piece of crap that handles turns, and is just built for the track. Atleast the cobalt can go over speed bumps and have 5 people in it.
and everyone knows, this comes in every production car...

It also comes with fixed back seats....and the price tag..... ohhhhh the price tag
37,862.14 USD
I will stay happy with my 8:22 record in my car with reclining seats XM radio, and bluetooth. And a livable suspension for the whopping price of 20K. Only an idiot would pay 37K for a FWD race car. For 37K you can get a lotus over there that will run circles around that.
"The following video shows a 2009 Ford Focus RS review done by the UK show Fifth Gear. The 2009 Ford Focus RS is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that outputs 224kW and 440 Nm of torque to the front wheels. The official specs say the 2009 Ford Focus RS needs 5.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h and that it's able to go as fa
st as 263 km/h. On the UK market the 2009 Ford Focus RS is priced around 25,000 pounds. "

Takes 5.9 seconds to get to 60, 1/4 mile time is 14.0+. Top speed is a respectable 163, and its a nice comfortable car. Its like a really nice GTI. Enough power, nice interior, and drives well. Just doesn't have the all out unforgiving suspension that it would need to beat out the VXR's and Cobalt SS/TC around the ring. Overall I know its better than the cobalt, but for the price they want for it, i would just get an STI, Used C6, Used M3, new 135, used 335 etc you get the point.
And here is where it murdered the focus RS. The renault that is

"According to Renault, the most potent version of the previous generation Megane RS, the 230HP R26.R that went on sale in October 2008 for a limited run of 450 examples, 230 of which are destined for Britain, has set new benchmark lap times at four UK tracks. The French carmaker announced that at Silverstone, Drivers-Republic recorded a lap time of 1 minute and 19.4 sec, almost three seconds faster than the more powerful Ford Focus RS that is equipped with a 300HP 2.5-liter turbocharged five pot while at the West Circuit at Bedford Autodrome, Evo magazine timed the R26.R at 1m 29 sec beating the RS by almost two seconds."
Focus RS already has proven to be a slower track car, but not sure what the final suspension set up will look like. It had a slower time at the ring by a significant margin but not sure of the details

Yes, its been out there quite a bit, and the times being reported are slower than the TC. Here is a link to a shot of it out in 2008. I know its just testing. However, its yet to be known if full power is at the wheels yet, and if this represents the final suspension set up. In otherwords I am reserving judgment. The dealership up here said it's going to be around 38 000 CDN... No thanks.

That's because you had the slush box, when one gear goes about 55 before the next shift through a torque converter it won't feel that fast usually. But what you seem to feel and what is are two different things, the top end of the GTO is much better then a TC. The trap says it all, 109>104.
I have never heard of a 1.7 sixty foot on stock tires, I think the best I have seen is a high 1.8.
