Suprisingly GTO's arent that loud without an exhaust kit. We have a procharged 04 GTO with Magnaflow catbacks and its still not crazy loud. Stock exhaust = suprisingly not that lout at all

Ok, so you're saying the stock GTO should have beaten that Stage 2 Cobalt worse than that?? Yeah, I don't think so.

GTO's get a lot of flack from people, but they are fast. Especially top end. I used to race my buddy's GTO (me stock and him catless, dunno if that even helps) and everytime we'd hit around 95mph he would slowly start to walk me.
Here's a vid vs said GTO after a couple mods. I was running 21psi and had a passenger. He was alone.

I've raced a 6.0 and had similar results. It wasn't as bad of a kill, but it wasn't really that close either.

Honestly, I think GTO's are bad freaking ass. They are SO comfortable to drive. They feel a little heavy (considering they ARE very heavy) but the body roll is forgiveable considering how well the car cruises. Plus power everything and it cruises at like 1600RPM at 60mph. My car is at like 2800 at 60 in 6th .

Here's the thing. I own a 99 C5 LS1(Which is maybe a little faster than the 05+ GTOs). I also own the Cobalt. I drive both everyday...There is no comparison.

As far as the overall cars are concerned, then yes I completely agree, there is no comparison. I just don't see a stock GTO leaving a modded Cobalt SS much worse than that, unless there was driver error or something else to cause it. The 6.0L GTO isn't THAT much faster than the LS1 powered one as far as I've been told (50 claimed crank HP difference).

And there is still a significant difference between a c5 Vette with less power (less weight and much better aerodynamics) and a GTO with a little bit more power to the wheels. They use the same 6spd correct??

Hey Hatrick... who the hell was squeeling their tires so damn much? I'm assuming it was the GTO... didn't sound like it was the most efficient shifting, so congrats on the kill, but I bet it would have been closer if someone else were driving... it might be a completely different result altogether. I have a GTO kill, but those things have way more power in the lower gears than we do, so until we get above 45 MPH and our S/C kicks in fully, they have us by a car length at least... and then.... ZIP...

And is that 305 at the crank or wheels? Either way, not a bad setup, you're definitely going to need a hell of a lot more to compete with that GTO, but you are well on your way...

The difference between the 04 and 05-06 GTO's is about a half second in the quarter. The 05-06 GTO's are runnin low 13's stock, where as the 04's are mid to high 13's depending on driver. The gearing and weight make them a bit slower then even the early 2000 Camaro's. My boy has a 2000 Camaro LS1 that he ran a 13.3 bone stock. The 04 GTO's aren't runnin that.

Either way, driver makes a hell of a difference. If my credit and finances were a little more comfortable, I would have gotten an 05-06 GTO for sure. Slap a Procharger on that baby and watch her go. lol

This thread just continues to show how much mis-information still exists about the GTO and even the LS1 F-Body.

- The LS1 GTO will typically be .2-.3 slower than a LS1 F-Body and thats 98% due to the weight difference. The IRS is a little harder to learn but practice eliminates that.

- LS2 GTO vs LS1 F-Body in the 1/4 with equal drivers the LS2 should win every time. But it is a close enough match up than an error in either car will widen the gap.

- LS2 GTO vs LS1 F-Body from a roll will usually end with the LS2 winning since the added HP and TQ came in handy. Adding a automatic in either car may mix up the results due to up/down shift differences.

- Well driven LS1 GTO = 13.3-13.6 @ 105-106mph
- Well driven LS1 F-Body = 13.0-13.5 @ 106-108mph
- Well driven LS2 GTO = 13.0-13.4 @ 107-110mph

With a really good driver a stock LS1 F-Body or LS2 GTO can see 12's with a perfect launch.

I can speak from experience since I owned two LS1 F-Bodies, a Stage 2 SS/SC and now my LS2 GTO. My LS1 Camaros felt really close to my GTO but the Stage 2 SS/SC would fall a bit short.

A SS/SC with Stage 2 alone will run high 13's with trap speeds in the 103-105mph range. Anyone trapping higher is running terrible ET's usually a bad launch is to blame resulting in a higher trap speed.

By the way SLoW SHO welcome to the .net with the exception of a few Mustang fanboys it is much better than SRT-4 and loser infested .com

Hatrick, something is wrong with that video. He runs a little over a tenth less then you to a thousand feet, and you beat him that bad? Say what you want but it makes no sense, even if it is an 04 auto with a passenger. That was a freight training of him, you put bus lengths on his ass. I am saying wrong gear if anyhting. What are your mods though? I think I have been through this before, but not sure. Just curious on the mod and WHP on the car you have. The car I raced is around 270ish +? Check japeatr for the actual results.

I raced Japeatr with his stage two + smaller pulley (17+psi boost?), cutome tune, cobra dual pass intercooler amoung other things, and I was 1-2 cars ahead everytime from multiple rolls. He missed gears two of the four times, but there was no doubt on the outcome. The faster I went the harder I pulled. It did really well though as we approached a 100, man that blower screams!!

Mines better, that car you are talking about is probably mine. I am local north dallas (flower mound area) and I put down 359/366 bone stock. What area are you in? Many others have dyno'd 350+, I did it during the optimal conditions. Still waiting to go to the 1/4 mile, but I am going to wait until the fall when its cooler (no point in making a long road trip for in optimal track conditions). When that does happen we should try to get a big group to head out there. Robert (GTOU? I can never remember his user name) and I will try and get as many GTO's and balt's to go, including some mazdas (my best friend is big into mazdas). Like I said, that will be in the fall. My goal is a high 12 second slip at 110ish, but we shall see. Until then, I will be in touch. Take it easy ya'll. Tyler

PS, the video on the topic of this thread was pretty good and as expected. You could for sure tell the balt in the first one was not in the right gear. Is 45 a dead spot for them? Keep up the modding guys, you have some fast cars that need to start beating on those pesty imports!!

45 in 3rd is a dead spot, Tony was absolutely out of his powerpand. Regardless, I love GM. No hard feelings here; although, when I get my car straightented out, I'd love to see how I'd do against an LS2...

And is that 305 at the crank or wheels?
haha are you kidding me? Who ever has a stage 2 with 300whp raise your hands!!

No one??

Thats what I thought. 305 whp stage 2....hahaha rrrrrrrrrrriiiiggggghhhhttt.

That was a good kill for the GTO but I think perhaps all the mutli coplored body paint slowed down the Stage 2 haha...either that was the slowest stage 2 on record...or the fastest GTO on record. I pulled a 13.5 @ 101 in my stage 2 balt with stock tires and exhaust.

I would LOVE to race you ljavy...the goat not so much, because it is stock...not much fun whoopin' on stock GTO's. Besides...who cares...I wouldn't be able to go around telling friends...they would be like...yeah so? You beat a stock car?

But you...on the other hand...I would like to race you...don't you have an engine swap or something? wussy. jk

I need to get rid of this stock exhaust dammit....it's killing me!!

Oh yea ok BS because the STOCK GTO didnt beat it by 7 bus lengths come on dude a stage 2 SS/SC can run high 13's with mad wheel spin and hop! And the GTO runs a low 13 with less wheel spin

So from a 45 Roll (the balts sweet spot) this doesnt seem about right? Personally I think the outcome could have been a far better for the stage 2 SS/SC

Man this stuff gets annoying!! Your right that GTO shoulda took off so fast from the Balt it made him **** right down his leg Whatever

i dont like that video...haha im not saying that the cobalt would win of course not but i raced a 6.0 with similar mods and the outcome from 40-110 was different i stayed within half a car until after 110 he just walked away and from a dig also he only beat me by 4cars max which still isnt as bad as that race.....
