Why do GTO's not want to race me?? (or not want to race you?)

every weekend up go up the the "local" meeting place... over 100 cars easily...

I got turned down by 3 GTO's last night..

They ask "Is that a supercharged Cobalt" I say yes.

They ask my mods... I tell them "Intake and exhaust"

then they just say no thanks... wtf?

(i posted this here because i count it as a win)

Yeah, can't get too angry about that. The other day an SS Camaro with atleast exhaust just looked over at me and laughed instead of race. I can understand the reaction, even though it would still be fun to see what happens.

I probably wouldn't do any different. Whenever a busted Civic revs their engine at me, I just laugh, because I know its not worth the gas I'd waste..

nah dude... they ask your mods, say no thanks because it wouldn't be worth the ticket... if you're meeting them at car meets, i'm guessing they're not stock... and they know they would rape you.

no... you got it all wrong..

they are not saying it for wasting gas.. they are saying it because the are scared to lose..

they few i asked last night...

turned away when i told them it was the supercharged one... and when they asked what i have done i said "intake and exhaust"

and they said.. "sure, that is what everyone says"

because up there everyone BSes about their mods... and up there there has been talk about what my car has beaten... i race a lot of people up there and word gets around.

(no i dont actually consider it a race, i just put that so it doesnt get moved)

Its kinda like when a guy with a riced out primer colored Honda asks you to race. You'd probably shake your head and say its not worth the gas. Same thing. Go ahead and chalk them up as wins if you like, but then you'll have to chalk up a loss for all the Hondas you've turned down....

I think comparing the cobalt ss to a riced out primer colored honda is a little uncalled for.
regardless of your point being valid :P

uhhh.......just b/c its primered and looks "busted" dosen't mean its not packing heat. My friend Zach used to have a Del Sol, and it started its life out that fugly green color, had a body kit, and all that jazz when he bought it. But then me and him ripped it apart, did alot of body work to return it to its more original state, and right up until he sold it b/c he joined the army, it was slathered in primer, had ripped up stock Del Sol seats (he sold the leather GSR seats b/c he was trying to make some bank since he was selling the car anyways), and even the ugly little stock 15" Del Sol wheels of which he self-painted flat-black. The car looked like the biggest POS ever, but it had a built up LS/VTEC B18 swap sporting a Jackson Racing supercharger on it, and it'd run cars night and day at the track. Sure, it looked like a "ricers dream" with half of a body kit, primered body, painted stock wheels, a big ass tach, etc etc.........but the combination of a lightweight little car + a supercharged Integra motor made for quite the David, in a David vs. Goliath situation........

I'm just tired of people hating on Hondas and assuming just b/c it dosen't look like some gorgeous show car, thats its a slow POS. I'm not a Honda fan myself, but i've had friends who've had tuned Hondas that would walk anything i've ever owned. I used to have a '97 M3 w/ a Dinan CAI and a UUC Motowerks cat-back, and my friends '95 EG Hatch w/ a built up B18 swap, ALL MOTOR at that, was capable of beating that M3, retained full reliability, and of course got better MPG than me......and you can't argue w/ that. And just b/c it wasnt some picture perfect show car didn't mean that it was some POS worth "laughing at" when it tried to roll up on you. Just b/c there are alot of sterotypical Hondas out there dosen't mean they all suck.

Show some respect.........

We're probably going to have to agree to disagree on this one. As much as you are tired of people calling primered cars POS's, I'm just as tired of these same Primered cars driving around with the owners thinking they're top **** with their stripped down beaters. I don't mind giving someone props for speed beit cheap speed or exoticar speed, but there is something to be said for style, and that primer half-baked look just doesn't do it for me. If I was only worried about speed, I'd get a crotch rocket. Something has to be said for style, and primered mis-fit add-ons just don't speak style to me, they speak, "I couldn't afford a real car so I threw this thing together and hope it sticks".

I see this thread going in a similar direction as the one that got locked earlier today.

Here's an idea: Why don't you just ask them WHY they don't want to race? Rather than just assume it's because they're scared. Also, do they race any of the other cars at the meets? Maybe they don't like to street race. Kind of a pointless thread.

Off topic, but what kind of car do you have? I only ask because I thought you were a GTO guy and then I saw your dyno #'s in your sig but they seem little low for a GTO w/ your mods.

Check the dates of the mod install vs the date of the Dyno, granted I was also expecting higher numbers with just a CAI and a chip. Haven't dyno tested since the latest mods but I anticipate doing that soon.

well, like I said, I agree that there are hordes of the stereotypical "thrown together" Hondas roaming about on the road..........but just b/c a car hasn't yet been painted and the bodywork hasn't been sorted out yet dosen't mean its a POS. Maybe the guy/girl wanted to get the motor prepped and ready before he tackled the bodywork. And theres nothing wrong with going the route of an older, more beat up project car as oppsosed to buying something new and modding it. It saves alot of money on the car, leaving more money for mods and overall personalization. If you have $20,000,, you want to designate towards a car, and you buy a $2,500 '89 CRX w/ a swap already in it that just needs some TLC and a good home, that leaves you with hordes of cash to turn that car into a full custom, 100% personalized, down to the color and all, likely power packing, beast. I give lots of respect to the guys who take a car that started out as basically nothing and bringing it above and beyond that of a newer car that cost 10x more, and still have extra money to save. It wasn't what I wanted to do as I don't have the time to have a car that needs to be built from the ground up, but if I did have the time to build such a car, i'd love to.

Very true on the primerd cars. I went to a car show today and there was a POS 5.0 sitting there with 10 different colored body pannels and **** rims on it. Then I walked up to it and it had a custom twin turbod motor making 550 rwhp. Same goes for an Talon at the track last week looked bone stock with an OK body and ran 10.90s at 120+ mph.

I am seeing a lot of redundancy... I do have one question tho, why go around asking to race everything? Don't get me wrong, I like racing, but why ask a bunch of cars to race at a meet? That gets annoying to me...the people that go, "lets race" "i would wax that ass!" I hear enough of it at work from a honda boy with a 200 whp integra that thinks he is the ****.... anyway... w/e

again.. they are not saying that because they think they will win.

i already said that once.

went out again tonight, encountered 2 more LS1 GTOs, 1 said he was new to driving and he said he would race me next week, the other said he was on a ticket (typical excuse for being scared)

Dude...do you want a cookie or something?

I don't understand the fascination with trying to race a car...
