I'm just saying man if a kid in a Cobalt SS wanted to race my GTO with just an intake/exhaust I would go home and get my SHO for him to run.

 

If he's talking about crank HP, that may not be too far off. I heard Stage II is good for around 260-270 at the wheels, which parasitic drivetrain loss is probably about 10-15% for FWD which puts it around the 305 mark or so. Doesn't sound too far fetched to me.

 

Ok well CT..... please post up your dyno sheets that said you made 305 HP on stage II... I want to see this. If its true you do have a factory freak!

Stage II will put it to about 230 to the wheels, a pulley, header and catback does not add another 30whp to even get it to 305 crank horse.

Id say he put down like 250whp on a dyno jet and no more with the mods he had

 

Could be true, im sure you can agree that when you're driving your GTO you dont realize how fast you are going because you cant really "feel" the speed like in a LS1 F-Body which has a more stripped down interior. No matter what speed you're at it in the GTO it feels like 15-20mph slower. A 79 in a 45 speeding ticket later..I learned to look at my speedometer more often.

 

that vid does seem a lil weird, once again SYP just keep at it and get and vid so we can settle all this.

 

Why is the camera man only pointing the video camera forward? In a race don't you point it directly at the car next to you? And that's one quiet exhaust on the GTO. We've already touched base on this on another thread, I think that one was locked down too.

 

the exhaust is what tips me off, but the camera thing happens all the time, i have no clue why ppl do it but I have seen tons of vids like everyone else where ppl dont follow the car that they are racing.

 

It does happen when someone has a mounted camera. I'm not sure what the guy holding this camera was thinking. At least in Slosho's video, the camera man panned to get a shot of the Cobalt throughout the whole race.

I'm going to restate that I think the Cobalt SS is a bad ass little car. I'm glad it lays to waste many of the hondas, acuras, and some of the other rice out there. Its when the cockiness gets all out of hand that I can't help think, "Domestic rice".

I honestly thing LS1 GTO's arn't all that fast, but neither is a stock cobalt ss/sc. A stage 2 cobalt ss/sc should be a very good race for the LS1 GTO's..havn't gotten the chance to race one yet though. Hopefully soon though.

 

trust me dude... your 13.80 is scaring no GTO... period...
that video is obviously staged.. we have cobalts alot faster then that one around here.. and they know better then to try and race a stock gto from a dig..

 

whats the fastest stock LS1 GTO 1/4 mile time? any clue?

 

the fastest recorded showroom stock LS1 GTO time is a 13.09@105.00mph... atleast on our forums...

I did go up to a few GTO owners and ask if they wanted to run tonight..

GTO: I dunno, what do you got?

me: (pointing to the black SS) Just a cobalt

GTO: what do you got done to it?

me: Just a little bit of intake and exhaust work (with a slight smirk on my face)

GTO: Is that the supercharged one?

me: Yea it is.

GTO: no, no man.. maybe next week.

and either one of the following

a) I'm on a ticket, i dont wanna risk it.
b) I'm new to manual, let me race you in a few weeks, you come up here often?
c) got this from 1 owner 2 weeks in a row... "I have been drinking a little bit, dont wanna risk it"

And if it means anything.. they are mostly my age. I am not asking 30-40 year old men to race, just some teenagers who are looking to get down. And that is why people go up to the meeting place, to race. so if you turn someone down, chances are it is because you are scared. I have even offered to race for $20, which i never do and they still turn it down... Now if i was such a waste of gas, whynot race for $$$?

trust me... a cobalt is NOT intimidating to a GTO.. in ANY means... especially from a dig..

some people have more maturity then to run on the street... live with it

well i dont know what the kids reasoning is.. but i can tell you they are not scared of you.. perhaps if they want to risk a ticket/jail/impoundment... they would rather have a GOOD race.. rather then a waste of gas?

or maybe its the wing on the back? thats always scary
