An Evo would do much better than that on street tires!

Different strokes for different people.

If you own a cobalt, which I supose you do since your posting here, you own a car built on a platform that does accomodate 4 doors. The Redline is a 4 door car, and there are Cobalt models that have four doors. Just becuase you don't have them, doesn't mean the car is magically a sports coupe. What I'm trying to say is that the Cobalt SS looks like a 4 door sedan without acutally having the doors. The area from the passanger door to the trunk is huge!

2004 Gto's with 350hp have been known to pull 13.2's and I think a 13.1 also but with a select few. Go on LS1GTO.com. I think the guy with the name Nocturn has pulled a 13.2 with his 2004 GTO, STOCK. But then again I've read that there were also people in the 14's. But that goes with every car. My friend with an evo pulled a 16.0. He just doesn't know how to launch it, however there are people that can launch it and get a better time than what the manufacturer or magazines say.

Honestly, I dont really like evos that much. 4 of my friends have them, and I see them everywhere. When I drove one, it was actually really boring. I found my friends Mustang Bullitt more fun to drive, or even my SVT is more fun to drive, well, to me it is.

you found an evo "boring" to drive? where did you drive it? around the block? drive it on an auto x course or take it to some curvy roads and i guarantee you will not find it boring. and i find it very hard to believe that an svt focus is more fun to drive than an evo. if you dislike the evo's that's fine but to say that an svt focus is funner to drive is just ridiculous.

I guess people can't have their opinions on here anymore....perhaps all of the hype of the evo made his expectations too high.

never said that he couldn't. obviously everyone has their own opinions. his opinion is that a focus is funner to drive than an evo. i just simply gave him my opinion. aren't i entitled to my own opinion?

I'd like to see a GTO and an SS race on a really curvy course. I wonder who would win?
Is the GTO gonna be more comfy than the Evo, I don't doubt it. However, I'm got full leather, and it suits me fine. Is the suspension stiff as hell, sure, but that's the choice I made for better handling. When I stated GTO = Straight Line; Evo = Twities, I was trying to keep it simple. No doubt there are many factors that play into it in the end run, but I would think the majority of people who buy Evo's are more interested in AutoX and twisties, and GTO owners are more about going fast in a straight line. Can either one trade roles? Of course... But I sure didn't buy my Evo to take out Vette's on the highway... And I doubt you were thinking about the GTO's handling when you considered it...

Everyone has there preference. But last I checked, in terms of acceration, the Evo and the GTO were fairly close in the 1/4. No doubt the GTO was pulling away and will continue to pull away as the MPH's increase, but that doesn't mean an Evo can't accelerate...

As before, I'm sure that the GTO can handle for a big car such as it is. But I'm pretty sure that the #'s at a track wouldn't be as close as say the number's in the 1/4. Of course it's all dependant on the track and the driver. I'd be interested to see #'s comparing the 2, at say Laguna Seca.

Bottom line, both are great cars. If you want a fast car with a nice interior and creature comforts, the GTO is worth considering. If you want a fast car w/ handling and don't mind a harsh (and I mean really harsh ) then I would consider the Evo...

Yeah dude, when I rode with my friends in their evo's, holy crap is all I have to say. It is the hardest riding car i've ever been in (so far) but that's good like you said for the twisties. And I agree with you, it's personal preference. IMO, I'd take the GTO.

I agree with everything you said. By the way, I'd kill to get my SS/SC on Laguna Seca!

Heh. Laguna Seca is about 1-1 1/2 away. I'm ridden my bike there, but I have yet to take my Evo there...

The GTO would do much better at a lower elevation also. Also the first run of the night was a 15.4, so we knocked off more than a second just by driving it.

Remember altitude also has a lot to do with it, especially with N/A cars.

So i was wondering, how much is an Evo VIII and how fast are they? It didnt look (or sound stock).

Hey i was impressed....

Fast.. (but obviously not fast enough)

Another car to look out for NOT to race is a WRX- STI. Not a chance in hell.

Evo's look like $15k cars. You guys couldn't sit here and tell me (pretended you had no idea what an Evo could do) that you could look at that car and say "man, that looks like an expensive car."

For example, G35's LOOK like what they cost, TL's LOOK like what they cost, etc..but NOT an Evo.

Line that car up with a Cobra, G35, 350Z, BMW 330i, and tell me it looks like it would be in their class.

Damn.. I started this thread and didnt think it would go this long.. haha

Well like i said... The Evo VIII was NOT stock and he did get a jump on me... and im all

stock (for now). I know it was an EVO VIII (cause i saw it across the back) and I could

hear the loud ass BOV, Turbo and exhaust.

When my stage 2 kit and k & n gets here I want to find him again....

I agree 100%. However, the engine does make up for it. I hate the interior but mostly what you're paying for is the engine and the awd system.

I agree that it's worth the money..But I'm just saying that it has cheap look to it, therefore i couldn't pay $35k for it. However, a slightly used one at like $25k would be worth it. I just think for 35k, you should get a couple fancy creature comforts with the car. the car is raw, which is sweet, just too pricey for a daily driver.
