100ft/lbs do a star pattern when torquing them. and what ya doing that requires your wheels to be retorqued.

our lug studs are weak.

overtightened could mean snapped studs, and some believe that over tightened lugs are partly the cause for warped brake rotors on the Cobalts.

100ft/lbs FTW

Depending on how long your lug wrench is, as tight as you can go is usually much more than 100 ft. lbs.

Wheel nuts that are not tightened to the proper spec can cause brake pulsation. This is caused by the rotor not running true and the brake pads then wearing parts of the rotor thinner than the rest of the rotor. This thickness variation causes pulsation.
Always use a torque wrench!

and its always a good idea to get your torque wrench checked for consistancy as well as they do get old and be out on torque. like mine for example is so far off on the low end but at 100 or 140 ft/lbs its dead on.

That spec should be listed in your Owners Manual. You know, that book that no one ever reads!!!
