i got a 06 ss/sc with gunmetal stock rims and im looking to paint them black. i read the "how to" but the rims they used are chrome looks like, not the gunmetal ones. has anyone painted the gunmetal ones black like how they did it in the how to?

I haven't personally seen it done on a set of gunmetal wheels but believe it would look really nice after your finished. If I ever get tired of my stock wheels before I buy aftermarket wheels I just may paint my chrome with Black Chrome style paint and then leave the gloss black centers alone. If you are close enough to my wheels when they are clean you can see where I used a clear coat with a metallic flake. Anyways I'd be interested in seeing how your wheels turn out if you decide to paint them. Hardest part about doing the whole project is taping off everything the correct way (if you don't remove the tires at least tape them off and it helps to remove the wheels from the vehicle and lay them on a flat surface). I have seen way too many people try and save time and end up messing their wheel up and having runs or over spray where their shouldn't be. Might as well do it right the first time.
Make sure you use Frog Tape though because regular paint tape won't leave fine lines if you pull it off after the paint dries. I don't think frog tape was available when I painted my wheels a long time ago.

Im also trying to figure out what to do with my rims, they are chipping horribly, and im trying to figure out GM's secret on how they did the gunmetal wheels. Its not a paint code at all becuase we have been trying to match the color and its so hard to match it. I have come up with the conclusion that the rims are painted silver and the clearcoat is tinted with some sorta color which gives them the gunmetal look. I really dont wanna paint my rims black but idk what i should do at this point.
