7163 zfr

I asked in an email if ZZP were going to bring out a 7163 zfr and heard back that you had one in the works around a month ago with a possible spring release. Is the spring release still possible? How's it coming along so far?

I could see this being epic if its a twin scroll EFR too, which is supposedly coming out.

The spool is so fast on the 6758 you wouldn't even need a twin scroll I bet

I know, I'm full boost on my ZFR by 3k rpm but just imagine a 7163 with that fast of a spool

Agreed with the same spool as the 6758 the 7163 twin scroll would be epic if you could get traction

What does the 7163 do flow wise? The 6758 seems to get up to 400/400 on pump gas, so could the 7163 hit say 450/450 on pump gas assuming it spools quick enough for the torque? The 6758 already causes traction issues with my Solstice depending on the road surface .

Its suppost to be 50hp more from what I've seen so far. Its just good for us because it comes on the same frame size as the 6758 a t25 flange. Have never seen flow ratings posted yet.

I was gonna ask you AaronJ what trans you're running because I've already gone through one on my stock turbo but you have a Solstice

Would love to see a chart of that. If you are though, you aren't doing anything beneficial to the turbo. Surge city.

I'm pretty sure Donkeyballs claimed his 6758 was fully spooled around 3k rpm

You would most likely need a different manifold just to fit, which I would do anyways if I was doing the efr setup. Werks has a pretttttty efr manifold.

My email from ZZP:

We should be offering a 7163 ZFR in the future. We are currently waiting on our supplier to get us a few of them so we can redesign the turbine housing for the larger turbine wheel. Once they are done in R&D we will have to put them through some testing so at a minimum it would be about 4 month before they would be available, possibly longer. Feel free to check on our Facebook for any further updates on this or as always feel free to email us!

Have you read that massive 100pg zfr thread from a couple years back? It could be a whiiiiiille before this comes out, like late 2014 or even 2015. But who really knows

Yea I followed that before but the 6758zfr is already out and selling on their site. I'm guessing they know what they're doing because this is the second one just 5mm larger.

Still find those rpms hitting full boost horrible for the turbo. Even if it is full spooled by then you're not gonna do anything but roasting the tires. Some people are so concerned with numbers, lag, and hitting certain goals then actually "using" the turbo.

Very true, the dialed in tune for a specific turbo setup is full of win

Very true but I've read about a lot of people putting a boost ramp on the 6758 because it spools so fast and since I only want to buy one upgraded turbo why not get one that spools only a little bit slower but has 50hp more headroom?

Ah yeah I haven't updated my sig lately. After the Cobalt I picked up a Solstice GXP, which luckily for me, the stock clutch and trans seem to hold a lot more power than the Cobalts'.

I'll have too look around for my dyno sheet from ZZP. I never scanned it into the computer .

Yeah Werks has a pretty manifold, but it changes the location of the turbo so the intake, CP, and DP don't line up anymore if I remember correctly. Its one of the reasons I wanted ZZP to make a ZFR for the Kappas.

This is probably a pretty good way of looking at it. Why buy a turbo that spools really fast, only to ramp it anyway? . I want to autoX my Solstice yet so that's why I needed one that still spools really quick.

The wastegate/wastegate bracket had to be in a completely different location, the oil lines were slightly different, and the extended tip on the turbo had to be modified into a 90 to mate up with the stock CP. All in all, once I put the stock heat sheilding back on, nobody will even know its a different turbo. Sleeper status .

So i got an email from ZZP today their plan is to try and maching their current ZFR housing 5mm to fit the bigger wheel from the 7163. When they get a shipment in then if that doesn't work out cast a new housing which will take more time. What are the a/r on the zfr and the 7163? does anybody know?
