Wax, how long after paint?

How long should you wait after getting a car painted to wax it? And does this also apply to its original paint from the factory? I got my '06 Cobalt SS just a few weeks ago, and over the years I've heard many varying opinions on this topic - everything from you don't have to wait at all to you should wait at least 3 if not 6 months.

Any professional opinions / personal experiences are appreciated.

Thanks.

Listen I dont know who is telling people this about not waxing your new car but it is wrong. The second day i had my cobalt ss i put a coat of wax on it. Since i have owned it i have already clay bared the car and applied at least 10 coats of wax. The only thing i have ever heard was the after a car is freshly painted ie by a body shop is when you are supposed to wait for it to cure. Other than that wax away the winter is coming and you wont be able to so do it well you can I know i will have another coat or two on before the brutal NY winter rolls around.

when it comes from chevy, its fine to wax right away because the paint is cured at the factory
you wanna wait to wax something if you get it re-painted
so if you buy a body kit, you would want to wait for 30 days after its been painted so the paint can breathe

The thing that made me nervous about waxing the whole thing was that the driver's side front fender had to be repainted due to some orange peel from the factory.

Thanks for the advice.

My buddy has a body shop, and they apply wax the very next day after it is painted.

Ya if its fresh paint, wait 30 days. My bro and a buddy of mine are body/paint for a chevy dealership and theyve always told me 30 days.
