If its a hose which one? thanks :) - Mike D4u2s0t 01-24-2008, 03:02 PM there should be a plug, i THINK it's on the water pump or by the water pump at least. to totally drain it also disconnect the radiator hose. not 100% on that, but it's worth taking a look Edubs 01-24-2008, 03:05 PM http://tunersource.gmblogs.com/Racer-Tech/ECOtec-LSJ-Build-Book/ECOTEC_2.0L_LSJ_Chap_2.pdf Pages 4 and 5... celicacobalt 01-24-2008, 03:06 PM when should the coolant be changed? i thought it was good for 100,000 miles Edubs 01-24-2008, 03:08 PM Mkulrey13 is putting a Garrett turbo kit on his car. I'm guessing he's pulling the engine bay apart to prepare for the installation. Not sure why he needs to dissassemble the cooling system, but I'm guessing there's a valid reason... mkulrey13 01-24-2008, 08:56 PM Mkulrey13 is putting a Garrett turbo kit on his car. I'm guessing he's pulling the engine bay apart to prepare for the installation. Not sure why he needs to dissassemble the cooling system, but I'm guessing there's a valid reason... Well yes and no, i DO need to drain the coolent to install my turbokit adn the turbo is oil AND water cooled. But im doing it to install my water temp sender in the hose. Saves me a few bucks from the shop whos doing the install for me on the turbo. Im installing a adapter in the upper hose, would it hurt to pinch of an area and cut between the pinched areas and install my adatper? do i have to worry about bubbles in teh system or will they work them selfs out? bump! Sunburst_SS 01-24-2008, 09:02 PM COOLANT!!!! not coolent lol Anyway, the fastest way is probably to just remove the lower radiator hose and let it drain into a pan. Take the cap off the coolant jug and it'll drain a little quicker. Also, the system will bleed it self out. After you're finished, bring the car up to operating temperature, rev. it up to around 2500 rpm a few times, then shut the car off and let it cool down. The air bubbles should work them selves out after a couple times heating up and cooling off. mkulrey13 01-24-2008, 11:05 PM Can i jsut pinch teh upper hose? cut and insert my adapter and seal back up? i really dont wanna drain my system  tricky1 01-25-2008, 12:53 AM Can i jsut pinch teh upper hose? cut and insert my adapter and seal back up? i really dont wanna drain my system  thats how i did mine, cept i put it in the wrong hose. just make sure you replace the lost coolant. Oh yes, there WILL be COOLANT!...lol mkulrey13 01-25-2008, 05:58 PM haah wow sp i spelled COOLANT WRONG big deal  celicacobalt 01-25-2008, 07:54 PM Thats crazy there is no how to on changing the coolant... Sunburst_SS 01-25-2008, 08:06 PM there should be a petcock on the right-hand side (passanger) of the radiator......jack up the car, put a drain pan under the plug...open it and drain. Be sure to have the cap off the coolant jug when doing it, it'll drain faster. here's a pic....look for that little plug on the bottom right http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b80/cassy22/radiator.gif celicacobalt 01-27-2008, 07:07 PM are you sure there is a plug there? i would like to try to utilze this tomorrow if this is true. Sunburst_SS 01-27-2008, 07:55 PM shoud be......I haven't looked on my car.....I pulled that picture off Dealerworld for you to see. Pretty sure it will be there :) celicacobalt 01-27-2008, 08:11 PM good info here: Here yah go. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff56/kaisoboy/1-19024-1.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff56/kaisoboy/1-19025.jpg hope this helps Sunburst_SS 01-27-2008, 08:27 PM yes, if you want to drain the coolant from the block also, you will want to open the plug on the bottom of the water pump. For what you want to do, you will be fine with just draining through the radiator celicacobalt 01-27-2008, 08:29 PM can i use my tap water for the 50/50 mix? or do i have to use distilled water. in the manual it says just water safe for drinking... Sunburst_SS 01-27-2008, 08:32 PM yea, they say that becuase if you have some dirty water come out of the hose bib and then put that in the radiator, it could clog up the cooling system. DebadgedBALT77 01-27-2008, 08:34 PM you can use tap celica. we use it all the time at work. celicacobalt 01-27-2008, 08:46 PM sounds good. i just got done running the car with the coolant cap off for 5 minutes to see if any air bubbles might come out as someone on here suggested. tomorrow im gonna drain and refill with new dexcool and watter wetter. celicacobalt 01-28-2008, 07:51 PM cant seem to find a petcock like the one that was posted in the drawing. the pictured area i found but i cant figure out how to remove the valve to drain the coolant, i cant see any hoses either cuz my intercooler is in the way. montecarloman 01-28-2008, 08:52 PM can i use my tap water for the 50/50 mix? or do i have to use distilled water. in the manual it says just water safe for drinking... You can use regular water but I highly recommend distilled water. Tap water with all the minerals in it can and will lead to electrolysis within the cooling system. blkSSgirl 02-22-2008, 07:22 PM So theres not a bleed valve? Sunburst_SS 02-22-2008, 08:32 PM So theres not a bleed valve? no.....that's pretty much why the coolant just has a vent tube, to bleed off pressure/air |
