Guys, I've noticed that my brakes are "pulsing" when coming to a stop already. i've only got 5000km on the car. This is odd. I don't race the car, but I don't baby it either. Is this a warped rotor for sure? I noticed that the rear rotors both have fairly deep gouges in them. The front ones seem fine. Anybody else have this?

They have a service bulletin to install Saab brake pads on the rear....

Check the torque on your wheels, over tightened lugs can cause warping.

 

the saab brake pads are the cobalt ss/tc brakes pads.. they are the same...

 

i have about 14,000KM on mine, so far my brakes are good, and I've been HARD on them a few times too. Your rear rotors will likely always look that way, it's the pad that was used, i've often thought about trying a softer compound on the rear but I also don't want to give up braking power.

 

The rear brake calipers are off of a Saab 9-3. The pads are something different. Saab uses very soft pads, hence the brake dust

 

I'll check the torque, but I torqued them to (if memory serves) about 80 pounds when installing my winters, so I don't think that is it, unless the dealer removed the rims and torqued them too tight.

I wonder if putting my summers back on (and re-torquing on the summer rims) might "unbend" the rotors.

So anyhow, I never got an answer- do you have scoring in your rear rotors (notable)?

GM recommends 100ft/lb when you torque the lugs, just FYI. I'd torque them to that level when you re-install the summers.

 

I had this discussion yesterday in fact. A friend of mine is going through tech school for ASE or whatever. He said a major cause of warping is under or over tightening the lugs. I'd retighten the lugs to 100ft lbs and be soft on the brakes for a bit and see if it clears.
