no.......you can't see the mark on the crank gear with the cover on. Also, without actually removing the chain and lining the colored links up with the timing marks it will be pretty hard to be exact.

Yeah. There's no real way to check timing on these engines unless you're retiming it.
Even if you have the front cover and cam cover removed, the colored links on the chain won't line up. Eventually they would but it'd take an insnae number of engine revolutions to get there.
Basically, if you're not setting a code for camshaft position implausible, the timing is correct.
