Engine output and 1/4 mile drag racing

I mapped out the gearing of the SS/TC and it looks like you could finish a 1/4 mile drag race in 3rd gear, reaching 100+ MPH, but according to the SAE J1349 certified engine output diagram, the hp and torque drop dramatically above 5300 RPM.

Is the appropriate shift point at around 5300 RPM? The torque is a flat 260 ft-lb from 2000-5250 RPM and the engine horsepower is always climbing above 2000 RPM, but this would entail shifting into 4th gear right before you cross the line to have maximum engine output through all of the gears.

Here are the hp and torque curves from GM's web site:

that diagram is retarded ..... have you ever seen the real LNF dyno graph ?? the torque peaks early (2000 rpm or so) then starts to drop off ..... It would have been awesome if the real torque curve looked as flat as the one you posted.

I've never seen a real dyno chart of a stock LNF. Do you have any pics or links?

Mine peaked at 236wtrq 4400 rpms stock. I think it is the dyno though as everyone else that has run their TC stock has made closer to 255 wtrq at 3400 or so.

The real dyno graph shows the torque starts to drop past ~5300 RPM. Granted the curves do look odd on the GM chart, but I think the trend is that the torque remains strong from 2000 to 5300 RPM.

June of last year I did a same day dyno face off with my Stage 2 SC and a stock SS/T.

Here's the thread:

Here's the chart from the test:

Stage 2 SC makes hp right up to 6800rpm, SS/T to 6200rpm.

I wold love to run on that dyno if the TC made almost 260 whp and 260 wrtq SAE stock. That is really high for a stock TC.

3rd gear would not net me anything above 103.6mph...I started shifting into 4th before the end and got 104.3
