GMS1 with bolt ons.

i have a 09 TC sedan..im not getting bored with it but i would like to get tuned.

i have a Hahn DP,Hahn cat-back,K&N SRI and a custom made upper IC pipe.

i havent put any of the mods on yet but would i lose HP if i were to put the mods on and go GMS1?

im having a hard time picking if i should go GMS1 or trifecta tune.

warranty is kind of important to me. and i would like to keep it. i have been in for some warranty issues so if i had to make a trip to the dealership,it wouldnt surprise me.

i got these parts used from a friend of mine for a damn good price. i dont go to the track or anything like that. this car is my DD and i will have a winter beater for next winter.

a friend of mine works for a dealership so i dont have to pay for calibration of GMS1.

any suggestions?

thanks

Custom tune will always be better. What do you mean lose power?

Custom tune>GMS1>Stock tune

I have a local tuner i would recommend to you.

I think the only mod that makes you lose power is the CAI/SRI

If you have the funds I would get a custom tune. That way your A. Safe and B. Full Potential

What warranty work have you had done?

Its not hard to return to stock and take it in if a problem comes up.

im in the same boat as you man, I don't want the trifecta tune cause i don't want to plank out $1000 for a new clutch, and i would rather keep my warranty.

or you can always buy a spare stock tuned ECU and swap it in for a dealer visit.

If you are worried about warranty then do gms1.

Well I've had a shitload of warranty work done with timing chains/tensioners/and all the parts to go with it. I just don't want to throw my mods on and loose HP after getting GMS1.

If the dealership digs deep enough they will find the tune. Or that's what I've read on here

Finding a spare ECU is hard. I found 1 for 130$ but im waiting to see if the GM part numbers match up but the place im buying it from seems sketcky and I wont be able to return it if its the wrong ECU

read the tune threads if you go to a "ass hole" dealer then they will dig deeper into your **** and find out you had a tune on the car, yeah turing the car to stock will be fine if you have a decent dealer that doesn't care.

seems you already had a small boat load of issues id stick to the gms1

Ooo ****. I did not know that. I think I might go GMS1 if the learn down is eliminated. I know I wont be getting the full benefit of my mods. Maybe later on down the line ill go trifecta or HPTuners. I just need to keep the warranty.

So I can put all my parts on my car and I shouldn't cause any issues? If I go GMS1

Stock GMS1 with Hahn CAI:
2009 Cobalt SS Turbo GM Stage 1 1/4 Mile - YouTube

GMS1 with Hahn CAI, ZZP 3" Catless DP, ZZP Bolt-In FMIC:
2009 Cobalt SS/TC GM Stage 1 + Bolt Ons 1/4 Mile Bandimere - YouTube

I'm at 6000ft above sea level too. The mods did gain power on GMS1. Over 1mph on my trap and almost 3 full tenths on my E/T by just adding a downpipe and a FMIC.

Cool. I only have a couple hundred bucks tied up in mods. I always thought that GMS1 still had the learn down. Im going to go with GMS1 for now then if I get bored with it ill get a real tuners __

When are you people gonna realize when u plug in the new ecu the readiness monitors are not set and the dealer know you either a) flashes the computer or b) you swapped in a new one...

Your bolt ons will be pointless with GMS1.

I have a custom tune and still have my warranty.

For powertrain problems? I wouldn't tune the car if I was in that situation. For non powertrain problems your tune would be unlikely to cause your issues so it wouldn't mess with the warranty on them.

If you have the GMTU and boltons you will see the gains from the boltons. Words from Bill Duncan himself is that the learndown is gone once the stage kit is installed

My car is bone stock. It has been to the dealer 3 times for a cold start noise. Its running just fine right now with no cold start noises.

I always thought GMS1 still had the learn down. Looks like ill be going that route for now and if I want to get tuned later down the road, then I will.

Tri tunes don't trip the computer and with a custom tune you end up needing a clutch as well, gms1 runs rich so you know, but nothing wrong with it and sorry to hear about all the work and issues you've had
