I will give you some advice though, if you get aftermarket headlights, MAKE SURE YOU TUNE FOR THEM, or else when you signal left, your high beams will come on!!!!!

thank you very much that makes me feel alot better that its safe i just dont wanna ruin it you know? i was gonna make a thread just for laughs about DONT FILL YOUR TIRES UP WITHOUT A TUNE lol but im just gonna keep my stage 1 and k&n then i dont really drive it daily only thing is cold start intake is so loud haha but thanks man i appreciate it!! also northvibe you have been a huge help and did u see the guy post that no matter what they can tell if its tuned! but some tuners will never listen lol

Yes they can tell if its tuned... always. Most of the time they only check it as one would say..... "half assed" but I guarantee that if your car has a serious problem like a blown cylinder, they will test and check every aspect of your PCM to find a culprit. A bad tune will do this. A good tune is solid unless a factory defect causes your car to explode, lol.

SRI from K&N is fine. Im trying to find the right filter postion again before I had to bring it in for waranty work. I tried 12:30 and the thing had ltfts between -3.1 and -6.0 and stfts at WOT were like +1.5

I just got done trying 10:30 position and my ltfts shot to -10.9 but at WOT my stft's shot to +14.0, soooooo now im trying the 1:30 position should the heat shield allow it, lol. I'll let you guys know after work. my guess is it will get closer to 0.

....no its not the filter is shaped kind of oval..but every car may read a tad diff but the general position should be close. To get it right the user will need to datalog or view the trims/afr's and change themselves.

I think mine is at the 1:15 - 1:30 position per cudajoe. I need to hook up my dashhawk though and test it out.

Yea it aint bullshit. Changing the filter position really and truely does give me varying trims and different effects during WOT/ cruise/ idle.

That's what I meant. The position for you may not be for me or others

I would have to agree, he can see that those guys are just either being paranoid or trying to scare people into gettin tune.............because they're tuners. I respect his opinion as I was thinkin about doing an identical set up he has, K&N SRI, Injen, and Hahn DP. He speaks the truth.

Theres a point....I think wangspeed went a little overboard. The k&n has been logged by a few and its trims are with in acceptable ranges running a stock tune. Hell the stock airbox isnt "perfect" either. Partial throttle KR is 100% guaranteed on this DI engine. So to say any intake needs a tune, imo is saying even stock needs a tune because stock vs k&n sri with proper filter position are very close. Now I'm not knocking the tuners, byt and term2 are good at what they do and I've said before I respect them, but they took it completely the wrong way and thought I was attacking them personally for some reason. I am not biased, I was pointing facts out from the opposite side of them and they felt attacked. Of course a tune will be better than stock, I think we all agree on that. But I dont have hpt myself yet, I think at the moment gmstage 1 is fine and I think a lot of people are in the same boat. I am going to do some logs on the hwy (2 hr drive saturday if my DH doesnt reset itself on me) with my k&n, maybe move the filter around. I'll go back to stock and after a few hundred miles log again, just so I can post data to this site for all of us to see/share/remember. Like I said in the thread. I want a thread with data logs of each intake, I think that would be helpful although some disagreed....

hmmmmkkayyy, Filters at the 12:30 position, I disconnected my battery for 10 mins to reset it. reconnected the battery. Drove 35 miles today. My starting stfts and ltfts were 0.0 leaving the driveway.

My ltft's are now 1.5 and my stfts never break past +/- 6.0 on gentle acceleration. at WOT stfts go to 1.5-0.0.

at idle im seeing 2.3-3.0 sometimes for stfts. most of the time its around 0.0. These numbers to me are NOT extreme and will NOT ruin your car. I still see spikes to -16.0 after letting off the throttle alittle bit but this is normal. The car corrects it in a second. stock airbox did the same thing... I wish I could video tape this. It doesnt show up well on the video...

My intake showed up last night at 8pm...thank you Fed Ex!

And No, I don't live in the boonies. I am 10 minutes outside of Phoenix. In fact, Fed Ex was at my house earlier in the day dropping off my free Iphone 4 bumper. I guess the driver forgot the giant K&N box with my name on it, too.

I looked at the filter last night, and I am not understanding how you put it at a 12:30 position...what are you referrencing to even put at the 12:30 positon? I know you guys said something about a notch, but I didn't see one on the cone anywhere. Are you referring to the metal peice that runs down the center of the filter on the one side?

On a completely different note, it really does come with a card that says they will fight for you if you have any warranty issues that the dealer claims was made by your K&N... I am just saying...that is pretty freakin' legit.

If you look at the filter, its oval, theres a "bulge" thats where you point it to the clock "time" position.

So has anyone actually figured out where I can actually buy an intake that has it in stock?

Thanks Northvibe, I will have to look at it again when I get home.

I picked mine up at ModernPerformance.com. It's their August special. You may want to call and see if they have anymore in stock because I know a few people have ordered from them since last week.

Update:

Watched my fuel trims on my way home from work on my 30 to 35 mile something trip. for approximately 29 miles my LTFT stayed right at +1.5. The last mile it dropped to +0.7 when I pulled into my driveway, lol. STFTs still bounce around in the +3.2 to -3.9 range... a few STFT spikes past -10.0 on decelleration but still nothing to scream about.

Keep an eye on it. The two cars I have tuned so far with the K&N SRI started at +3.1 LTFT but by the time I was done tuning both of them they ended up with anywhere from 5-12% changes to their MAF tables (average change was 7%). I have no idea if both had their filters clocked the same way but they were with 1-2% of each other for the most part.

So is 12:30 where you want to be? I thought the consensus was like 10 or 11 o'clock...

Ive had my DH going while turning the filter to see where a good location is. It definitely makes a difference where its positioned. Theres a couple positions which at idle will give 0 to -.8 and -1.6. Otherwise other/most will go +2.3-3. my DH keeps rebooting itself though so I need to fix that first.
