Probably selling the 08 balt
M5 is a great car. But you really have to weight the pro's and con's on it.
also for the warranty of the cobalt even if GM files for bankruptcy the US government will make GM fix them. I don't see GM ever going away. I say even if you are in Canada they should still repair your car.

please don't mind me saying, but your mom wants YOU to buy her a cheap car if you sell your balt. i guess she doesn't want to sell lhe bmw?? i would think she would just buy her own car and just let you use the m5 whenever you wanted to and you could decide on your own if you want to sell your balt or keep both cars?? no disrespect here, just wondering...
I would not drive an 8 year old German car unless someone paid me too. Maintenance costs out the ass. Basic tools you have laying around you use to work on the Cobalt are USELESS! Every tool you need is some overpriced weird size one off custom tool. Not to mention wear and tear items. Tires are real expensive, brakes are very expensive, and I cant imagine what a clutch+install costs!
Hmm, 5 yr/100K powertrain + whats left of your bumper to bumper, 30mpg hwy+, and I'm sure the cobalt out handles the M5. If you are looking for HP+TQ straight line acceleration fun.....get an 03-04 Cobra or a 98-02 Camaro or Trans Am. It will cost waaaaaaaaaaaay less.

So I was given a proposition by my mother recently. If I sell the 08 Cobalt SS turbo and get her a cheap car like a pontiac g6 or something, she will give me my dad's 2001 E39 BMW M5. I know I shouldn't be on the fence about it but I love my cobalt. I did the interior in suede and it's great on gas are my 2 main arguements against doing it. Besides it hasn't even been broken in yet, got only 3800 kms... thats under 2800 miles... So I haven't unlocked its full potential.
But then again... This is the pinacle sedan. That 400 hp V8 with an intoxicating rumble of the engine and exhaust. 0-60 takes a mere 4.8 seconds (of course my late father never drove it like that so it will take a while to learn my driving habits, or I just incorporate his style which is more likely) for a sedan that's insane (Yes I know the sedan balt goes very quickly too. But going in 4th gear from 80 km/h to 150 km/h and it only takes 2 seconds, so exhillarating too. The cobalt FEELS faster because it's lighter. But look at the speedo and BMW clearly is faster. So I don't know. It should be an easy decision but I'm still hesitant. I probably will do it though as it was my dad's pride and joy. Just wanna know what you guys think.

1) 0-60 in 4.8 seconds is not that fast and
2) There is no way that your m5 does 50mph-93mph in 2 seconds in 4th gear.
