Violent no lift shift
if i never have to shift without using the clutch i will still die a happy man. with probobly more money cause i didnt have to fix the damage it may have caused

I can shift my streetbike without a clutch, just have to let off the gas just a hair and it slides right in. i downshift tho with the clutch. havnt tried it on the cobalt, a little scared ill be honest lol. but my buddys focus does it no problem
How about everyone just shuts up unless they have something meaningful to add to the thread. That way the TC guys can stay on topic instead of making dumb elitist comments, and the SC guys wont get butthurt that not everyone respects the SC as much as they'd wish.

x2. its getting so old. ya, this is a cobalt forum but there r catagories for a reason. the topic here is NLS on the SS/tc. noone cares if you powershift another car, that adds nothing to this conversation. ya some of the tc owners run their mouths, but alot of tc guys are former sc guys (like myself) who still love and respect that car. but at the same time, ppl need to stop ruining the threads by starting all this nonsense. if you dont like what tc owners have to say, or dont want to talk about the tc, then dont post in the tc catagory....not that hard

As for saying that SS/TC owners won't listen to SS/SC owners, that's as bad as saying all SS/SC owners wouldn't assist and listen to 2.2 owners of which I used to be a part. I see the reason behind your stereotype, but can't completely agree and could actually take offense since I WILL listen to anyone who offers up sound advice but there is also a shitload of garbage that flies around these forums that is of absolutely no assistance to anyone.
I tried offering my advice on the "violent NLS" earlier in the thread and I'm sure it went missed due to the pissing match this thread has become. The sad part is I DO own a TC, I HAVE done numerous NLS and I HAVE hit the violent shift that's been reported...it's not all driver error but is based on the timing of your clutch going in and foot coming off the gas (depending on when you shift the windows is tight) as well as the gap between 1st and 2nd in ALL SS models (notice I did NOT say TC only, the SC has the same god damned gap)...I've noticed violent shifts when:
1) Foot off gas too early while clutch still partially engaged (expected)
2) Bumped the rev limiter (either due to shifting too early or too late) while the clutch was still engaged (expected)
3) Tires let go in second after a successful NLS (expected)
4) Pulled car out of gear before clutch was completely disengaged (expected, car falls on its face)
5) Just royally fucked up my shift by combining a few of the above (whiplash)
Man, it's a good thing the guy at the gas station with the SS/SC didn't have the same maturity issues you're addressing or my head woulda been clean across the parking lot when we stopped to talk

If tou're taking your foot OFF the gas while shifting you're NOT using the No Lift Shift feature. NLS's purpose is to leave the gas pedal to the floor all the way through the up shifting process. Or did I misunderstand what you are saying?
Sorry I should have clarified, I don't mean ALL the way off the gas, but my right foot occasionally has the tendancy to lift of the throttle a bit (due to my seat placement, etc.) when I am getting on the car hard. Even the minor change in throttle at the higher RPMs (being first gear) can cause the car to lurch forward ever so slightly, but can totally throw off the final result of the shift due to the momentum of the vehicle at the time.

I have the same tendency. You really have to FORCE yourself to leave the throttle on the floor. When you do get used to it you can see, hear and feel the result. When done right I think you will find your shifts to be LESS violent due to the lack of turbo lag. The engine stays in the power band and spins the tires rather than allowing the wheels to hook too hard. I can't wait to get on the track. I am going to have to fight the urge to lift. My LS1 powered Fiero forces me to lift due to the length and slop in the shift cables. The only solution to that problem is an automatic trans. which was on the agenda till I bought my Cobalt last Oct. It's now on the back burner. Good luck.

heres my contribution - i drove a TC at the dealership. I dont think the NLS was even worth being an option, you can do it on any standard car, and if something breaks, we all know damn well GM wont cover it. lick em newbs. :-)
think i got the hang of it now, i practiced with it getting on to the ramp on the highway and once your going into 3rd its so smooth and the motor just sounds awesome when you put it in competitive mode. It just has that roar to it that just gives you an adrenilin rush lol.

Man, people like you are the reason I frequent forums for vehicles I DON'T EVEN OWN much more often than this one. I post a ton on those forums, and yet I still have the mental capacity to state in any posts that are vehicle specific that I have no first hand experience because I don't own the car. The general posting population also seems much more mature and educated/experienced as well.
NO TC owners here look down on people because they don't own a TC. We just look down on the stubborn dolts who can't get over the fact that WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A DIFFERENT CAR HERE and get all pissy because we try to point that out. By all means, if you can CONTRIBUTE, then do so!
