I want the exhaust a little louder, but not too much. I think Catted may be the way to go for me. Im not sure want the smell and increased emissions from my DD....thats what the catless straight pipes are for on my Vette lol, but you cant stand behind that while its idling longer than 2mins without feeling woozy lol. Plus the trouble of switching back to stock for inspections annually....

Will the sound be a noticable difference with a CATTED DP on a stock catback?

Honestly there will probably be no difference in sound between the stock dp and a catted dp on your stock cat-back setup. I say this only because the catless dp with the stock cat-back on my car is seriously barely louder than the day I drove it off of the lot. It is seriously THAT quiet. The only time you can kind of tell it's there is when you really start getting on it, and even then it's still NOT AT ALL loud. It just has a mild note to it.

So imo, if you want just a little bit more tone from your stock exhaust, I would go with the catless hands down. If you are planning to upgrade to a full 3" exhaust at some point then maybe a catted dp would be a better fit.

The problem is personal preference. I've read threads where catless/stock exhaust is good, barely any louder...some say it's a lot louder but not overbearing. *shrugs*

Different people say it's loud while others went catted 'coz it was too loud. hell some have catless/MD and think it's not too loud. Best case scenario would be to hear it in person.

Edit: try this..AFAIK this is a zzp catless dp/stock catback. I like the sound but it's too loud for around here 'coz the cops are dicks, as i have found out recently in my cavy. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/pictures-videos-64/tc-zzp-catless-vids-189718/

I'm 90% sure that I used a 7/8ths wrench but I don't remember for certain.

Instead of filling the top up with stickys, there should be a thread that links to other useful threads. Sort of a universal FAQ.

There's a ton of useful stuff on this site that just takes a bit of searching. A FAQ would bring it all together nicely.

Every o2 sensor I've had to chase / tap is 18mm x 1.5mm. Check that with a die first though of course.

Can anyone comment on the amount of exhaust smell after going catless? Does it find its way into the car?

The smell is definitely there however it is not overwhelming I am actually use to it now and don't notice it any more. And no it does not get into the car that's how exhaust systems are designed, otherwise people would be dying in rush hour.

Thanks Tom.

Reason I ask is because my wife and I like to drive my car together on the weekends and I want to make sure that it's not going to be affecting my little girl. I guess I'm just use to my true duals on my old 01 SS Camaro (big motor, big cam, no cats = wayyy stinky).

Concerning carted dp's.. I just got one with a spun metal cat from ZZP. My MAF is messed up but after that is fixed I will see about getting some sound clips of it. Those saying there's no sound change are crazy. There DEFINITELY is. At idle and normal acceleration, no, but put a load on the engine and its undoubtedly louder.

I'll try to get one this next week hopefully. Just waiting to get this MAF issue sorted out. Spun metal cat on ZZP downpipe, otherwise completely stock exhaust.

Thanks for the link, I added it to the first post.
Just FYI Cold Start up is not a very good representation of what the catless downpipe sounds like as when the car first turns on it goes into Cat Warm Up Mode which is loud as hell for 30-60sec and then the sounds calms down alot.

I really like it. Cold start up is not TOO much louder than stock exhaust. It's a little louder. Warm idle and just putting around town I can't even notice a difference in sound. If I give it a little though, say... 25% throttle or more it's very noticeable with a window down. It's quite a bit louder then. Inside with the windows up, I can hear a pretty nice growl.

It's perfect for me. The only reason I didn't go catless was I was afraid it would be too loud and any louder than my catted would probably be too loud for my taste. So I'm very happy with the results. Oh I get my car back tomorrow morning. (Saturday) Had a broken wire/pin connection in the plug for the MAF.
