Bad Cam Actuator

Does anyone have an idea why my 2010 LNF keeps having cam actuator issues?

They have already been replaced once now roughly 600 miles later having issues again...

Any input would be great.

you are talking about the cam actuator solenoids? ive come across some where there is alot of debris and crap in the oil and the screens get gunked up, if they changed them and didnt change the oil, they could get clogged up again

I check both solenoids first and screens are clear. I had this issue before and both the intake and exhaust actuator were replaced. The car was fine for about 600 miles and now the same issue..

Gm came out with redesigned cam actuator solenoids and a ECM reprogram to work with those in the equinox's. Not sure if same problem though.

I heard Gm had issues with them, they were on back order from GM for almost 2 months I had to wait to get the set. I didn thear about the ECM reprogram, I know the ECM controls the solenoids that regulate the oil pressure to work the cam actuators. Maybe there is an issue there...? I am not sure..

what is the actuall code that comes up if you got to scan it? There has been issues with the reluctor spinning on the camshaft, but that would throw a different code than a actuator issue

Well we first replaced the tensioner but the noise still continued, then replaced just about everything on the timing side and came to find a guide was broken so the car was fixed and fine for a short period of time. The noise came back, the noise souds like the timing chain has slack in it. Replaced the acuators and the car was fine for about 600 miles. I just think it is the acuators because everything else appears to be fine.

You guys need to relax on these "noises." Just drive it. I'm going to go out and start my car and video it and you'll hear some noises alright.

I agree with this if the noises are the standard LNF noisy motor sounds but this is different. Its easy to tell the difference between the typical motor noise and the "there is an issue noise"

I will do that. I drove the car 2 days last week and it was perfectly fine, saturday morning I started it up and was making such a loud noise from the timing sound of the motor and I just didnt bother to drive it and shut it off. I havent touched it since so who knows.

Like I said this isnt your standard motor noise, def something wrong.

Cubaniche had a very similar issue, and it ended up being the rubber inside of the tensioner was getting frayed for some reason. This caused a pressure leak in the tensioner... causing the tensioner to not work correctly... causing chain slack... that then caused the chain guide to break... which also caused the intake cam "key" to get bent a bit... which also caused timing issues.

I'd ping Cubaniche and see if you have the same thing going on that he did.

I was just stating it is pretty clear where the noise is coming from on the car because it is so noticeable. I appreciate the advise and will take a look into that also, thanks for the input.

maybe your car may have debris in it from the factory from the assembly part iv seen a 2011 terrain with ecotec and it kept throwing cam codes and running like ****! we changed both soleniods and actuaters when we and thought oil filter was the problem then noticed what looked like sand in the oil = a brand new engine!!!!!!!
just take off your oil filter housing and check for it

FYI: I made a correction to my post above. I said tensioner instead of chain guide on accident.
