BOV spring upgrade
I've got mine sitting right in front of me. I re-read a few pages and could not find it but I saw somewhere that it does and will throw a CEL.
Now I don't wanna put it in. Anyway around it with not upgrading the BOV? Will a tune be able to eliminate this or is it a mechanical fail so to speak and therefore never go away? Some intel from educated tuners appreciated please!
it is very easy, 1)Take off the intake box above filter and unplug MAF, set aside
2) remove the braided oil line from the intake and disconnect the intake from the turbo. (its best to use a swivel 1/4 drive set or angled flathead) TAPE OFF THE TURBO INLET!!!
3) optional, but helps with knuckles loosen up t-bolt clamp holding rubber expansion tube to turbo and turn out of way.
4) remove vacuum line with small pliers, then remove bottom 10mm bolt (i think its 10mm) then one toward front, then top one. The spring pressure will push the plate off. take the plastic plate and spring and seal away from engine and swap out.
5) Push the new spring into the seal using the plastic plate, the new spring is ALOT stiffer so it takes some force. I was able to do it by myself but it was kinda tough, be patient. Thread in the top screw, the forward one and finally the bottom screw.
6) Tighten down alittle more than hand tight, reconnect your vacuum line (or leave it off for a loud as BOV sound, but put it back on because its suppose to be on) and reassemble intake and enjoy!!

Good write up^^^
In case anyone is kinda lost to where it is....it's roughly in the middle of the engine by the firewall just to the right of the intake connecting to the turbo inlet. The cover for the spring will typically be tan in color with the 3 bolts as stated above.

Image of the Intake removed from turbo and BOV cover/spring/seal removed

Just a pic of where the intake would go down.

I'll likely put it in but I want to ask a couple other people that have done it and see if they have thrown a CEL
I also want to know from someone who is well versed in tuning what thier thoughts are on these springs.

hey, in regards to the CEL. i have HAHN ppc, catback and charge pipes ((soon to have intake, and intercooler 2days
))) but with those 3 mods i have no CEL on my car with well over 1000miles on the spring.

I appreciate the info. Did you disconnect your battery and/or your PCM when you did the spring install? Also what are your quick honest thoughts on the spring? Comsidering you are "tuned" did you notice it helping? Spool faster? Louder? etc
i didnt have to disconnect the battery/pcm. my mods are pyskotuned, IC, IC piping, 3in downpipe/catback, CAI. with the upgraded spring i did see the turbo spool faster and with my CAI it makes it sound better to.
the BOV is def louder, much crisper. the turbo spooled pretty damn fast already. considering i didnt get traction in 1st till the top of second b4 the spring, its hard to tell if its making a difference there, but running out third shifting into 4th does seem much more consistent day to day. so yes, id say it holds boost better there.
and no, i didnt disconnect the battery.
