It won't do any damage to the engine - especially since its not throwing any codes, I just hate how quiet the car is compared to my SC - besides I only plan to use mine till the GM stuff comes out. Then I can make some decisions on what I plan to do to my car.

Really looking forward to putting the CAI on this weekend, can't wait to hear it...

100 bucks for sound.

:dunno:

Why don't save up and get a tune, or something that is a little more useful?

I mean I wouldn't mind one, but everyone seems to be bending over assbackwards and shooting their loads off over sound.

A tuned LNF sounds stock, but puts you into the seat harder, you guys should be excited over that

I don't need to save up. I am waiting on GM. I have all the money I need for upgrades once GM announces, I can make decisions on what route I will take. Yes sound is worth 100 bucks while I wait...

you have to remove the wheel and take part of the wheel well off. the cone filter is huge and it wont fit thru the hole where the stock snorkel goes.

and i'll be waiting a while on jegs

yes you do get somewhat of a Blow off sound. it sounds like air is escaping rather than recirculating back into the intake. actually sounds pretty bad ass.

def not. i bought the K&N drop in before i got the CAI. Totally diff sound and it sounds better.

Actually I meant do you have any problems with the cai knocking against the walls of the engine bay when the engine jumps.

I was already banking on a bad ass sound... :]

you mean like every other performance car

or do you mean that a company charging $250 for the same damn thing suddenly makes it a good idea???

i'm sure the vendors will agree to that, lol......the dyno and scan tool............not so much

SSturb - did you have to buy any additional clamps or anything to assemble the intake or is everything you need already in the 4 parts? I pick them up in about 2 hours and may install tonight. just let me know thx...

my question is, once I take out the stock air box, how do I go about getting the fenderell off? I can see now why the wheel has to come off, but even then, just in glancing at the fenderwell, how do you remove it???

and I just decided to get a new filter as well, got this one at Autozone

http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/8132/10002/-1

should work consider the 9123 is 6X10.5", this one is only 6X6.75....

jegs sent my half of my stuff, the intake piping kit was what they didn't have on hand, so I bought it at Autozone(who I found out had it in stock)... the jegs parts were supposed to ship in a few weeks, but I had them cancel that...

(I know some adjusting will have to be done)

and i'm going to move the black coupling down to the 45 degree piece, this was just a test fit

this is the intake kit: a 45 degree angle, 2 straight pieces, the vaccum sensor(which I don't think you actually need, other than using it as a straight piece), 3 tube collars, and a rubber coupling(with 2 hose clamps)... I THINK I lost one of the rubber o-rings, I only have 3, but if you get the tube collars tight enough, leakage SHOULDN'T be a problem, i've never ran into problems with other intakes i've built... Also has a mounting kit, which I don't think you will need....

45 degree elbow and another tube collar, have to purchase this separate than the kit

the MAF sensor mount, which comes with some piping reducers(black plastic pieces, not needed, its 3" itself and is what you are mating it to) and it comes with a few MAF adapters... you need to use the slotted one, which I have beside the piece... and then you simply use two screws to attach it, like so(the adapter beside the pipe is simply there to keep it from rolling over while I took a snapshot, lol):

now if SS turb will chime in on how to remove the fenderwell/actually install it, we'll be on our way to making a how-to

sorry if the pics are somewhat blurry, my digital camera is like 5 years old

Did you get the kit from Autozone?? Or somewhere else?

In stock? (on the shelf in other words)

I got the kit at autozone, the MAF mount from Jegs... I also got the 45 degree bend from jegs(the kit was on backorder), but you should be able to get the 45 degree bend at Autozone... autozone also had the filter I will be using...

BTW that 3" adapter for the MAF is not meant to be used with the collars from the intake kit. You WILL leak doing that. If you look at the plastic pieces of the intake kit, they have a lip on them that seats into the collars which pulls the sections together around the O-rings to make the seal. The 3" adapter does not have those lips. I used two 3" couplers on mine to ensure a good seal.

Granted, the amount of air that will leak in will be minimal, but still...

i'll take my chances, black couplings will be a terrible eye sore... besides, when fully tightened it feels really snug

Well I have to admit, custom air intake sounds much easier than it sounds. I remember taking the wheel off and getting into the wheel on my SC which was soooo much easier thab the TC. Anyway this is time consuming and not simple so just fyi for those considering the task...

I tried all the parts SSturb listed but was concerned about sturdiness and the fact that most of the parts are plastic with the seal rings not matching the metal MAF. So after 3 trips to the part store and some work I created my very own custom intake with no plastic tubing or rubber rings to possibly get sucked into my motor. I even fabricated a bracket to hold it in place.

All I can say after completion is that it was 5 hours of my time well spent. My car sounds amazing... Why didn't I do this months ago...
