Dealer installed bracket for SS

So the lower MAP sensor from my Stage 1 kit was not clipping into place.

So i took it to the dealer

and I quote " We installed a bracket around the sensor to keep it in place"

So i started this thread so everyone could enjoy warranty back jerry rigging.

I will post pictures tonight if possible.

I'm scared

So what you're saying is they either didn't shave the boss off as the instructions state or shaved it too far

Yeah I think they did something wrong initially. So what part of the sensor gets shaved in the install process?

They have to shave that off until it is flush, any normal file will do the task if you're patient. The tech who installed mine sat there meticulously working on that step for a good amount of time to make sure it fit and he didn't **** it up. Sounds to me like they gave your kit to some ramjet and they either went too far on it, shaved the wrong part or didn't do it at all. If you look at the stock TMAP you'll see why the Bosch sensor has to be shaved down; the anti-rotation bar comes in contact with the boss and won't allow the Bosch sensor (with the boss) properly seat in that location hence your dealer jigging it up to make sure it doesn't pop out.

I hope they remove the coldside to do this job. It would be easy to screw it up otherwise.

I see that figure now. I see how not shaving it down would cause it to not fit in the charge piping but how does that stop the plug from fitting on the sensor correctly?

They do not have to remove it to install the lower T-MAP.

That wiring harness is super short, if there's any tension it's going to be under severe stress under WOT. Either that or perhaps they plugged it in the wrong way, or ripped it back out improperly. The options are endless but I would be demanding THEY replace the sensor under warranty. Jigging it can only lead to something bad happening due to where it is.

Seems like it would be easier to do it right with it off.

It does not. I guess the plug they used did not fit properly or they damaged it? Mine snaps in as tight as can be. Not loose at all. I did my install myself though. They might have messed up the connector latch that holds the connector onto the sensor.

Conclusion:

Dealer fucked something up, they should replace the sensor under warranty as per the TSB (not just "make it work") as THEY did the hardware installation and do it right the next time.

I took mine off because I have an aftermarket coldpipe and I had to check the pipe couplers for leaks as well. I ended up having to face the sensor the opposite way towards the fan because it was hitting the AC compressor and I did not even have the connector plugged in yet. I rotated the sensor and installed the screw from above which is a PITA but a lot easier than taking that coldpipe out again.

I totally agree with you, but it has a warranty for 100k miles.

I'm going to get some good testing in.

If it becomes and issue again I assure you it will be replaced completely.

To Term2: The plug seems to go in correctly but doesn't have that extra 1/8th of an inch to snap over the barb that locked it in place. The top sensor looks perfect.

If that TMAP lets go under full boost you're going to be sorry....but here's hoping their McGyver solution holds .

I see you took off your powah #'s since you installed your sensors. Hows the tuning coming?

Morning

Don't know whether to get mad or move on.

They didn't even look at the plug that goes into the sensor. Which the problem I was having. They installed a bracket over the top of the lower MAP sensor. I can't really tell what they secured it to.

Looks very tacky, but on a side note, the car runs perfect. I get full boost and the plug no longer pops out, even though it looks crooked.

Here is the quote from the service listing. " The MAP SENSOR WAS IN PLACE WHEN VEHICLE CAME IN SHOP. SCREW WAS TIGHT. I MADE A BRACKET TO SIT OVER THE SENSOR AND USED 2 SCREWS TO SECURE IT. TEST DROVE AND CAN'T POP OUT NOW. I DID SEE TWO HOSES LAYING LOOSE BY MANIFOLD??? I SAW OVER 25LBS OF BOOST ON THE TEST DRIVE. NOTE: SENSOR DOES NOT CLICK IN PLACE IT JUST PUSHES IN AND SCREW IS SUPPOSED TO HOLD IT. THE SCREW GM SENT WOULD NOT EVEN TIGHTEN, THAT'S WHY I HAD ALREADY PUT A DIFFERENT SCREW IN THE SENSOR.

So it looks like they used a different screw in install. It also seems they don't know where the vacuum tank hoses lead.

So,
  1. The screw GM sends with the kit holds perfectly, I've posted a pic of mine below. The sensor is only intended to have one screw with locktite, not two.
  2. Not sure what they mean by loose hoses by the mainfold. Were they literally not connected or just "hanging"
  3. It looks like they did shave the boss off otherwise it wouldn't get in there flush at all without ruining the anti-rotation bar.

yeah they shaved it down.

I see what he did now. He used that bracket and got longer screws. I am starting to think my sensor was moving under heavy load, which was causing the plug to fall out.

The plug going into the sensor still doesn't look as cleanly attached as yours. I'm just going to leave it alone. It seems to be working.

Mine is secure. No loctite either I just check to make sure it is still tight once in a while. Plug locks very securely. Mine would break before the plug falls out.

Term, did you block off the hole which is exposed after the new TMAP is installed or leave it open (where the second bolt used to be)? I thought it was straight through the pipe and is not sealed? Any chance you happen to know?

On my Clearimage coldpipe it is drilled all the way though so I had to put the other screw back in the hole to seal it. IIRC the stock coldpipe is not drilled all the way through.
