I appreciate the help. I do have a laptop, but its a piece of **** that battery doesn't work. I live in an appartment on the second floor and I really don't feel like running an extension cord all the way the hell out there so I'll prolly just do the tuner. Now are there different tunes or one set kind? I mean, is every Cobalt tune from Trifecta the same?

A lot of tuning work and full bolt ons.

Yeah if your battery in your laptop doesn't work then get the GT tuner. Vince will ask you some questions about want your wanting out of your tune. After that he will write your tune and send it to you. Once you have it uploaded onto your car you can use the GT tuner to datalog some WOT pulls in your car. Send those datalogs to Vince and he will fine tune your car for your location, gas type, etc. This way every tune is custom to every car he does.

Yeah, I wouldn't use your laptop to do it then.

You don't want to get halfway through a reflash and then "brick" your ECU because you didn't finish it.

Oh ok. That makes sense. Now do I have to pay for like shipping or something everytime the tune gets fine adjusted or something?

No you can keep the GT tuner until all the final adjustments are made then ship it back. So he could re-write your tune a couple times then if everything is fine and both you and him are happy you can send it back in, also it comes with pre-paid return postage.

Another possibility is going through a dealer if there's one near you. There's a list on Trifecta's website. A dealer can come out to your place, meet you somewhere, or you could go to their place, should have all the required hardware already, and Vince would still be doing your tune too. They'll also help you with datalogging and locking in the tune the way you want it.

Just throwing that out there if you're wondering about the hardware aspect of everything. There's another possibility too.

Nice. I can't wait to get this One last question, sorry. What happens if I do another mod to my car. My car is stock, performance wise...what happens if I put an intake or replace the charging pipes on it? I'd have to retune it?

Typical rule of thumb is that you don't have to, but you would probably want to in order to get the most from everything.

Re-tunes are cheaper than the original tune (btw).

Edit: Wow... happy 1000th post to me! ...just saw that...

The only part that you would have to re-tune right away if added to your car would be a cold air intake or short ram intake. Anything else wouldn't need re-tuned, but would be beneficial in gaining the most hp/tq.

Half true I think. It was originally for the '08 since that's what Vince has, but he rewrote the code for the '09 so it's all good now.

Hell no! I have an 09 with this tune and it's nasty! There is so little difference between the 08 and 09 that the tune would need little to no change between the 2 years. Going to get re-dynoed on Friday so I'll have some numbers for you to see if you'd like.. Hopefully I can get a little closer to Terminator2's numbers this time...

It will make a ton of torque up to 400 wrtq at 29-30 psi but as with zzps map clamped stock turbo car the stock turbo cannot hold that much pressure for very long so the torque drops off a lot faster and HP as well. It think that 345 whp is the absolute max on the stock turbo unless their are other factors such as race gas because the turbo flows no more air at 30 psi than it does at 22 psi about 36 lbs/min max or enough to support 340 whp or so. IIRC Vinces stock other then infiniboost HHR SS made 290 whp and not sure how much torque on 91 octane and stock timing.

You are right, but he actually has advanced my timing over 1.5 degrees and I've had zero issues with any knocking thus far.. Not that advancing my timing will spontaniously give me 80whp more, but it should help the process.. I do know one thing, the infiniboost tune he gave me is definitely noticibly more powerfull than the last.. I'm going to a much more reputable race shop on friday to do some more runs. The last guy I went to (Jannetty Racing) was just closer but he's a freakin joke.. His fan was literally 25 feet away and as a result my IC was pretty much imediately heat soaked due to zero air flow.. so we shall see what happens Friday on the dyno.. Either way, I'm sure you've still got the spead covered my man.. lol
