Transmission question

so I wanted to canvas the group on what you've experienced with your stock tranny's and clutch... to me, and maybe this is just me... but when I shift, under fairly normal driving conditions, especially 1st thru 3rd, it seems like when the clutch grabs, there is sometimes some of that clanking between the tranny and the motor.. are any of you getting the same thing? just not sure if this is normal to the car... or if maybe this needs to be looked at... I just dont think there should be so much noise during shifts..

I have no upgrades on this other than the GMS1 and a Forge Coming..

thanks!

my clutch grabs a little early in second as well and from what I understand we have a loud engaging transmission and the clank you hear is normal

but I'm just repeating what I read because when I first got this car I had all sorts of noises I wasn't used to and asked. all were apparently normal

I just started getting the noise a few weeks ago. Or at least noticing it. Its only when you press down on the clutch though or if I let off the gas while in 1st gear. And it only lasts a second. Almsot sounds like a rattling or kinda grinding slightly? Im not sure its anything serious. But wouldn't hurt for us to get it checked out

yeah.. its not overly bad I dont think... but it just seems loose... and perhaps there is a built in flexibility?? the clutch itself doesnt really make any noise... its definately directly located metal to metal tranny to engine.. but it occurs during the process of when the clutch plate pressure increases when you let out the clutch... usually at slower speeds.. less than 25mph.... acceleration.. deceleration.. reverse.... but when I get on it... it goes away..

the linkage is cables...so its loud and can be clanky... Unless this is the inner workings of the clutch. could be the throw out bearing...

Mine does that too, it's a single clunk sound when the clutch engages. It's done it ever since I've had it, I now have 8100 miles on the car.

Good to hear this is fairly normal, because I notice it sometimes, and it makes me cringe a little.

Especially since I did the front and rear tranny mounts, and it makes me think I did something wrong, or they're getting loose, or something.

Rome,

Since I am not fully sure if you tuned for the Hahn catted DP, have you noticed any issues with your car? .. have you Dyno'd it at all? the impression I get is that without a specific tune for that addon, you won't be getting 100% of the performance gains... but what I wondered is, if you had the GMS1 first, then the catted DP, did you notice a performance difference once you put it on? if so how much..... any CEL issues after you did put it on? just curious...

thanks!

Thanks to everyone for the replies... I think its a good enough consensus that this seems to be a fairly normal issue... I kinda wonder if a shift kit would be something to look at to tighten this thing up... but I don't know of anyone that makes one that's quality and smooth for the Cobalts...

anyone?

It was still drivable because 5th gear is in a little area by itself on the end on the trans. Sounded like a popcorn maker though

I have not had any issues or CEL. I put it on after GMS1, there is an increase in mid to top end but will have more power if it were tuned for. Sorry but no dyno, I guessing I have 275-280 Whp.
