dealership=fail

talked to parts guy this afternoon. hope he dies of syphilis. hes an idiot and was trying to order the hhrs/solstice/sky kit. very angry that my hopes and dreams of an end to the waiting was crushed. the only positive news i could gather was that they are redoing the intake apperature. He stated tech guy at gm was not allowed to give him and specs on the upgrade. stated they were still kinda working on the intake which is the hold up at this point and may not come out for another year yet.

Ima go drink now.

Wait...what the hell!?.....A year!?......Alright, I am going to the local dealership tommorow and going to try and get an answer on my end. There are too many dealerships throwing out different dates....Can they all be that clueless?

You've answered the whole question of the thread...

YES

In order to get any firm answers, we'll have to start asking the "performance and racing oriented" GMPP departments. Even they may still be clueless at this point.

Scoggin-Dickey parts center
Sallee Chevrolet
...and the like

ok, the dealership tried to sell you a Solstice, Sky, or HHR kit, we all knew there was no Cobalt kit yet, but still you checked it out.... at that moment, the dealership and their service department, lost all credibility...

so any release dates they speculate on, yeah, those came straight from their ass

and well, I got my tax refund today and we still don't have a kit, so there goes that theory, lol

you know what sucks more than not having the stage kit? Having the money ready to go toward it, and not having the stage kit

Do we have confirmation the LNF Turbo Upgrade Kit (Aka Stage Kit) will NOT void the factory powertrain warranty? Will it roast the stock clutch with 340 ft-lb going through the darn thing? Are there any long-term issues to come about, like busted half-shafts?

I'm assuming it will be released in a few weeks or months. By then my 09 SS/TC order should be processed. Can I tell the dealer to perform the LNF Turbo Upgrade before I take delivery of the car? How do I verify they did the installation? Do the new TMAP sensors look wildly different or should I look for signs of wire splicing?

Finally, how well do you think a 09 SS/TC would fare in snow with the stage kit? That's got to have some wild torque steer.

You may be able to have them do it right after delivery, but that is probably up to them if they'll immediately do it or not. As far as knowing if the kit is installed, there will be a new "premium only" sticker rather than a "premium recommended" sticker. That will probably be the easiest way to tell. Also, if you have to hold on for dear life then when you punch it... that might be a good sign too..

Will that be regardless of temp, altitude, etc.? This winter in Houston it's been cold+low elevation... =not much boost usually.

1. It will NOT void the warranty.
2. The clutch is certified to 340 ft# (Probably a lot more including safety factors)
3. Been looking on the Solstice forums and haven't seen any problems. The stock shafts are pretty stout.
4. Tom at CED is expecting some WORD on the upgrade in a few days.
5. You can have the dealer do the install in which case the warranty will begin when you take delivery.
6. TMAPS should look the same. They are just calibrated differently. The 4 wires to the connectors should be cut and spliced.
7. It will drive in the snow like a front wheel car drives in the snow. Torque steer is managable.

Tom at CED is waiting for some word as we speak. He promised to keep me informed. I had to promise to buy the Ipod hook up for the radio to bribe him. We'll see how that works.

I'm sitting at the dealer right now. I wandered over to the parts department to ask about the kit. The guy at the counter was like "you're the second guy in two weeks that's asked me about this kit". He called the Houston warehouse and they told him that they've been trying to order it, but the order keeps getting cancelled by GM, so he didn't know when it would be available yet.

Guess we need to just keep checking in every once in a while.

this is a GM part installed that is NOT for offroad use only and is CARB certified, GM parts do not void the warranty, unless they do not meet those two criteria(and A LOT of their parts don't)... So with the stage kit and a GM installation, your warranty will stay in tact

Personnaly I don't want the car to be any louder. So keeping the stock airbox and getting this car to 290hp/tq with that gm upgrade is fine by me.
man i hate those cai's lose ur torque down low, spool up delayed, i remember doing a short ram no less, on my sti and all the tq went to crap. i'd rather keep intake stock and have low tq, besides we have a fmic with a few feet of tubing, don't want to extend the wait any longer

so with the tidal wave of ss/tc owners buying the gm upgrade the second it comes out, do you think crate engine will sell out, will u be able to buy them anywhere else? will gm keep making them?

the other thing i just realized, people want the gm kit just so they can keep their warranty, but i heard that chevy gives u a very hard time for warranty fixes

I got no idea where u think this info comes from but an STi is a totally different beast.

CAI is slightly slower in the TQ department. but LNF cars are not made to really launch bc of the FWD. hence why a 40 roll is perfect. and a SRI is only good till about 70 MPH then the CAI takes over to where it is better.

Thank you for your interest in K&N products. The filter we list is designed and tested for your engine, even though we also list it for the non turbo, that just means the non turbo engine get a great filter as well. I’m not sure on the GM side if there is a difference, however it is not needed with our filters.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our customer support department at 1-(800)-858-3333.

Thank you for choosing K&N,

James Johnston

Technical Support Representative,

K&N Engineering, Inc.

Phone: (800) 858-3333

Just in case there's any more questions about the K&N filter for the LNF.

no your dealer may give you a hard time, and how "hard" of a time they give you, is dealer dependent... if you are Joe Nobody and have no relationship with the dealership, they are probably going to inspect the situation with a fine tooth comb, whereas if you have bought multiple cars with them, they are not going to give you as hard of a time... My family has a long relationship with our local Chevy dealership, in fact when I bought my '08 Cobalt, they had it shipped here over 300 miles and I hadn't put a dime down on it, but in that I have personally bought 3 cars from them(my family over the years over 10), they trusted me... So in my situation, i'm not worried, I'm mean I'm not going to be one to press my luck but I asked the service manager straight up if a downpipe would void the warranty and he told me, not if it had a cat... So all I have planned is a downpipe, intake, and the GM tune.... and when the stock clutch fails a spec stage 2+ and flywheel, and i'm calling it quits

Q1 is rapidly coming to a close....and the GM Performance Division website still has this listed as coming out in Q1.....What are your thoughts people?

Is this kit going to be on hold indefinetly? Are we going to be getting it real soon?

I think that they just have not updated their website. I would like to be proven wrong though.....
