HPVO makes cars. GMPP makes parts. The stage kits come from GMPP.

If you waited this long for the kit, why give up warranty at only 2 months away? Not saying the other tunes are no good, but really, are you that impatient? What will you do within 2 months of having an aftermarket tune that you couldn't do 2 months later with the GM tune?

Maybe I'm outta line here. Don't take anything personally

im not sure what post it was in, but someone said there was some calibrations that needed to be made by the dealer when you plug in a new ECU. So I thought that the idea of having a stock ECU and a tuned ECU were out of the question unless ure dealer isnt gonna get suspicious of having to keep setting these calibrations on the your ECU. IDK maybe im wrong.

Its the clutch learn - it needs to be done in the car, and can only be accessed by a Tech II. Once its done, its learned to the car, so you can swap in and out, but since the Tech II is so expensive really only dealerships have one. It would be suspicious for you to walk in and ask them to perform a clutch learn - since it only needs to be done once.

X2.
I have told others who have said to get another ECM the same thing. Your dealer is going to be kinda suspicious if you have two ECMs.

may be a stupid question, but is this going to put a cap on the hp to 290 like our cars stock have the cap at 260. i belive its a "learn-down" feature

It is not really a learn down feature as much as a preprogrammed airload (air mass) limit that the ECM has. It varys the boost level from the turbo in order to maintain that airload. So, if you make the car more efficient at pumping air in and out the turbo has to work less hard to acheive that airload. To answer you question the programming is changed in the stage tune so it will consistantly boost 20-22 psi I believe, but it can be tweaked to boost more with the new sensors. The stock turbo is maxed out at around 23 psi though. So it will not ever go back to the stock boost levels.

with the stock tune bolt ons are pointless because of that feature thought correct? Is it going to be like that with this stage kit aswell?

There is "rumors" that the car will adjust to the best performance available , depending on gas , air , boost limits etc to fit what the car is able to do. So if there is a more efficient induction system, the car should account for that and not "learn down" to meet the factory specs. The car will always protect itself, but should adjust for optimal performance for the given conditions.

On the stock calibration its not a rumor, there is a torque limiting function @ 260, it will reduce power accordingly to maintain this limit.

according to the guys with HHRs, the stage kit tune does not learn down, cut boost, etc...

Kind of off-topic, but would you mind clarifying the clutch learn deal?

Thanks

Seriously, if gm wanted to release stage kits for the cobalt we would have them by now. how long does it take to make an intake, not long at all rite! the stage kit would be conservative anyway and not worth the price. if you really want your warranty then its up to you but mind you, if you go aftermarket whoever said you couldnt return back to stock tune. for $250 trifecta walks all over the upcoming gm tune imo

Basically, a tech hooks up the tech tool, initiates clutch learn, and pushes in the clutch pedal. Thats about all there is to it. Without this procedure, the car will not start.

On the clutch relearn, I sold a few brand new LNF ECM's to people on here and other boards and none of my ECM's needed a CPP relearn in a Cobalt, just food for thought

Mine works awsome .... Put 800 miles on it since new ECU and no clutch relearn + tune uploaded and downloaded just fine
