ok my buddy is going to buya 96 cobra today and i am wondering what kind of mods i would need to beat him the previous owner of the cobra ran a 13.7 at like 100mph.. i have a gm exhaust hurst short throw and the airbox mod, and a 3.15" polished pulley from nate. i'm thinkin i am just gonna have 2 say hell with it and just buy stage 2 and a 2.9 from nate?? if you know anything about 96cobras let me know cause i dont know much about them

 

If he is running a 13.7 then I think his trap speed would be a little higher than 100. I would bet that for a Cobra of that year to get into the 13s he probably has full bolt-ons. Anyway your friend could find out if it had street tires on it when it made the 13.7 run?

 

ya i dont know the exact mph he just told me it ran a 13.7

 

Well I just googled it because I wasn't positive on the 96 cobras. It was the first year that the cobra got the 4.6 which was OVER-rated by ford(just like everything else) at 305hp and 300tq. As tested brand new it did a 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and ran a 1/4 in 13.99 @ 101 mph.

If you can drive you will probably take him. I have stage two and theres a 98 cobra with quite a few mods around here and he has not been able to beat me one single time

 

thats awesome my buddys getting it because he cant beat me in his 00 gt mustang so he's getting the cobra BUT it's for years older and more miles and its his 1st stick shift

 

they are kinda slow. since its a 96 with probably a bunch of miles(wear and tear) and a new driver, i bet its a mid to high 14 sec car. good race but you will beat it from a roll and maybe close from a stop. mustangs didnt get a good set of heads until 99 i think when the went the to the 'P.I." heads. so all in all your golden. line em up

 

get your car tuned, and maybe a 2.9 pulley. as long as you have the 45 lb injectors.
i beat a cobra a few months ago, but the guy had just bought it that week, and he was not used to the car. and i fried my clutch last night owning a n/a stang, lawl.

 

as soon as he buys it i am gonna run him if he beats me i think i might just have to order stage 2

From a dig may be a diff story depending on his traction and your driving.

his thoery is 2 rev and burn the tires through the whole 1st gear.. when he races his auto gt he punches it right from the start and spins like **** so i'm thinkin it will be the same with cobra

 

If he has 4.11's and sticky tires you're toast from a dig. Ford gave them shitty gears from the factory.

 

ya i just found out stock gears but can exhaust intake aftermarket clutch and of ya 100 SHOT OF ZEX i'm toast but it will be fun

Oh, ok. Well their pretty slow. A guy I know has a fully bolted one and barely beats a Stage 2 Cobalt with no other mods.

 

He can't drive then. Fully loaded ones with gears are low low 13 sec cars

 

with a 100 shot yer done for... you could always get your own 50-75 shot :P haha... i'd never add nitrous to a car unless i was competing and winning money for the trouble, bolt ons, internals, tweaking is great, show what you can do at the drop of the pedal, not on the click of a button ! :p
