bad vibrations with ottp stg 2 mounts? solution!

hey, read somewhere in another thread about this, and was so relieved i wanted to make sure everyone else does the same!

i installed the ottp stg2 rotated tranny mounts a few months back... while the hop was mostly gone, the vibs were... noticeable. especially at idle, and it would shudder when i tap the gas, or try and crawl with the clutch (Reverse, anyone?)

found out if you undo the 3 bolts for the spacer and then re-bolt them in, it kind of re-settles the engine better than before, now that everything has shifted and adjusted to fit it.

so undo the bottom bolts, and then put them back in. took me 5 minutes, and now the car barely vibrates at all!

hope it helps anyone that didn't knew..

UPDATE! Turns out you're supposed to do this right after you install them. i.e., install them take for a lap around the block, then do the above.

also, loosening and retightening the upper engine mount is recommended by the great John Powell

when I installed my ottp stage 1 kit, I had kinda bad vibes, John Powell told me to loosen the side passenger upper mount and retighten. WOW made a huge diff. I have barely a vibe and they havent broken in yet and It may be your same issue.

ok well im kinda new to this, motor mounts helps the car with wheel hop.
wheel hop mean peeling out right? for example, when you install motor mounts, you can launch better and/or peel out less in other gears?

wheel hop is when you spin the tires, and your whole car feels like its bouncing. extremely bad for your axles. so yes, these mounts (And other things like ingalls torque dampener and better engine mounts, etc) help to eliminate that by keeping the engine from moving around so freely.

the problem with doing that is that if ur engine isn't freestanding, it makes the car itself vibrate with the engine more, which can get very annoying and make it feel like ur driving a p.o.s. on its way to the grave. so i thought this helped

It will help with launching your car. "peeling out" is not going to be fixed that much, if you are worried about that and you take ur car to the track I would say get a good set of track tires ex. slicks

Ok guys. When installing Otto stage 2 mounts, don't torque the mounting bolts. Leave them a little loose then drive around the block or something WITHOUT hitting boost. Afterwards go in and tighten it all up. I had hardly any vibes after that and wheel hop is eliminated. Make sure you loosen your upper engine mount as we'll. It let's everything settle as it should.

ya really this is for when ur car burns out, but realy aim to not burn out, just practice good launching

also since they limit engine movement it made shifting feel a little more direct and smooth

Lots of incorrect info in this thread....

Please see a thread I made a year or so ago. Listen closely to what Northvibe says to do in post #6.

No prob. man!

You can find the torque rating of the bolts on here.

John says to torque them to 45ft/lbs, but I believe the correct torque is 37ft/lbs as per GM.

It's been awhile since I installed my GMPP and Rotated Trans mounts.

Those are needed as well. Please see why in the link I posted about how to fix vibration issues when installing trans mounts.

Your link covers the trans mounts though, so that's good!

Engine Mount to Intermediate Bracket Bolts

37 lb ft

^ This is for the upper engine mount bolts.

I knew it was 37 lb/ft.... I just wanted to be sure though.

So do I, but those torque specs are not really needed unless you are replacing the upper engine mount.

Read post #19 and the link I provided.... HA!

Only messin with ya man.

Now that is just being lazy.

You shouldnt have loosned the upper mount it's self.

Not saying it's bad, but it wasn't needed.

To recap on everything for anyone that may still be confused in this thread:

When installing rotated mounts, or trans mounts in general....

Loosen the 3 bolts on the upper engine mount, and re-torque to 37 lb-ft.
