Big Problem.

Last night I went to the track. On my 2nd to last run I thought my tires were spinning or the clutch was slipping. I did another run and the same thing happened, figured it was the clutch slipping, that's what it felt like. The rpm's went up way to quickly and I wasn't accelerating correctly.

Moral of the story while driving the car in any gear there is a whining noise. I looked underneath the car and there is A LOT of oil on the bottom of the car. The engine bay looks clean, the dipstick DID NOT pop out.

The majority of the oil looks like where the shifter would be but underneath the car. Its like between the axles. Both axles looked ok to me.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be. The oil is BLACK so I am assuming its not transmission fluid, however when I am in 1st gear and slowly accelerating I hear a high pitched whine, same thing for other gears.

I also smell this burning smell but I am assuming its the oil burning off of my exhaust because there is a decent amount of oil under the car. My car says 19% oil life remaining, which I was about to change it anyways, dipstick shows very little oil in the car. Does anyone have a clue as to what might have happened?

The car still runs and still pulls hard but while in gear there is a horrible whining sound. Anyone have any idea as to what it could be?

Monday morning I am going to get it into the shop and on the lift to see whats up, but I am just hoping someone might be able to chime in, thanks.

Edit: The reason I thought it was the clutch is because when I accelerated hard in 2nd gear the rpms flew up but I was accelerating, I shifted into 3rd and the same thing happened. I let the car cool for awhile, took it back out and I dont think the clutch is related to this issue at all. WHY IS THERE OIL ON MY UNDERCARRIAGE AHHH.

So is the clutch still slipping after a few hard runs or so? Sounds like the rear main seal blew out to me. That would cause the oil to leak where you are describing it and also would get on the clutch and cause it to slip. Or possibly the oil pan goo blew out around that area, that could also cause the same situation.

FYI, when the transmission fluid comes out it usually is dark brownish like oil but has a red tint. I just changed the tranny fluid on my car this week and it was this color

This sounds like the problem I had. 2nd gear decided it did not want to be in the transmission case anymore. It whined in every gear. The clutch would slip. There was oil all over my driveway. I hope this isn't your problem, but, if it is, time for new clutch and tranny.

2nd gear is a rebel

sounds like you blew a seal though, since you are saying black with not much in the pan

So, 2nd gear is somewhat of a big problem in our cars?

My car is at a dealer now, waiting on 2nd gear synchros to be replaced. Apparently, they are on National backorder, and they haven't had a clue when they will get them in for over a week now. Which really sucks for me, because I have to leave here in 16 days for Cinci, Oh.

My tranny also decided it did not like 2nd gear's synchro when i had 8k on the clock... new clutch, flywheel, and tranny.

ok so IF it was the rear main seal that blew and caused oil to be all over the under carriage, why would the car have a whine to it while driving? In any gear while slowly accelerating I can hear the whine, and when the car is at higher rpm's the whine is louder.

Could there be 2 separate problems or would this be related?

you all need to learn how to drive, j/k. Sounds like your rear main seal man. Or the oil pan.

As for the gear whining, could be that 2nd gear is also fucked up in the tranny.

haha, well my ex gf just let me know that there was a trail of oil leaking from the car lol. If the rear main seal was gone would it drain all of my oil? Would it be unsafe to drop in a qt or two of oil so I can drive it about 2-3 miles to the shop on monday so they can see whats up, or should I just have them tow it.

im not taking it to the dealer with the mods i have on it, i would be driving it to a dyno shop who as always treated me well to let me know what they think is wrong with it. I will probably poor a qt or two of oil in to get it there.

yea.. ur oil light will come on before u did any real damage...if u catch that in time there shouldnt be any damage...when u get it there, spray the hell out of it so its clean and no oil under the car, then run the car in the air and watch for the leak, if its that bad ud see it start and get a better idea when exactly its coming from

oh yea..ill give u call tommarrow sorry had alot of people over tonight

1 more day to wait until i can get it in the shop and up on the lift to see what the issue is. Wish me luck that I have no issues driving it to the shop. I am hoping that its something stupid like a hole in my oil pan lol but the odds of that are slim to none.

I am assuming its either motor oil or gear oil, either way probably not good. I am assuming its going to cost at least a grand to get it fixed if not more. I might have to pull off all the mods and take her in for warranty work.

Either way its going to be a pain in the a$$ to get warranty work done. I will have to strip everything off of the car basically for them not to complain and say no. I would have to find 42lbers, and a stage 2 pulley, I mean it would be a hassle lol.

Well it looks like I am leaking tranny fluid for sure, looks like either the rear main seal, or some type of seal for the tranny, but I don't know for sure. Shop is going to have to drop the tranny and find out, looks like I am getting a new clutch and flywheel though. I just hope nothing is cracked, but from the looks of it it's probably a seal of some sort.

Thanks for everything guys. Car gets in the shop next monday, and will probably be done monday or tuesday of next week. I will let you guys know how it goes.

the whine you're describing sounds like it could be related to the output shaft and intermediate shaft, which could also spit oil if damaged near the case

just hope you didn't put a hole in the case...

update: just for the hell of it i called a gm dealership to see if they would do warranty work on it since i am under 60k miles. The guy said yes, i let him know there were some mods done and he said as long as it had nothing to do with the transmission in itself that they could probably take care of it for me. I asked him about the nitrous and he said he would find out and give me a call back. He also said he would NOT void my warranty for any reason for what we spoke about over the phone. This guy/kid was pretty cool. I am waiting for his call back to see if I need to take the nitrous out to have them do the warranty work.

I do know that he said the ingalls td has to come off, but other then that nothing else deals with the tranny really.

red06sc from what we could SEE there was nothing cracked/damaged just leaking tranny fluid and possibly a little motor oil like hell. Basically where its leaking from is this case looking thing in the middle of the axles. There is that shaft thing that comes out of it, and that case was what was leaking the tranny fluid.

It was a phone call, he doesn't have my last name and he doesn't have my full vin number. Obviously if I take it in for work there going to see the nitrous lines and or bottle along with all of the switches lol. He wasn't going to void my warranty anyways.

It's more difficult then you think.

However I will be pretty shocked if the guy calls me back and tells me that they are willing to do the warranty work on it with nitrous on it lol. I tried to explain that the nitrous was engine related and not tranny related, that was my point lol. However added power is added power, but still the seal shouldn't have blown.
