this car/vent thread

call me nuts but i love my lsj. currently i only have 2.9 and 42,s but have meth kit 2.8 and 60,s awaiting to go on but recently blew a plug outa my head. so no more till the new head gets put on. i helicoiled it but am scared to increase pressure in the engine on a helicoil. anyways im addicted i cant stop modding and buying stuff for my car my recent kick is cams. i really want cams but dont wanna pay 700 for them. there are gmr cams for 250 but looked into solid lifters they require and dont wanna go through that hassel. like most i am on a budget. but still the cars fast enough for me and i like how it is now just wanna go faster

If you need a head i would get a ported and polished head before cams. It's a win win. New head and it will flow much better.

Well there is one thing wrong with you're set up and it's that blower you're running. You should just go TVS, sell me you're blower and i'll see if i can get it to work haha

From personal experience I would say stay away from cams at this point in the game. There are a lot of things you can do still to GAIN power, without messing with your cams. Generally speaking from the data I have seen, cams more so change where your power band is, then say adding X amount of power in general. Of course you will gain hp/tq at a certain rpm, but you are also losing it at another rpm. A lot of people like the gmr cams and the 272 grind, but not very many members are running them and there is a reason why behind that. If you are interested in cam data, look at the information area47 has posted, it's a good read for sure.

lol cams will do more then just change were the power is you have to tune for them area dident tune for each cam so the data is incomplete

Modding can be very addicting but doing it all right the first time around can save you a lot of time/money/hassle etc. If you would have went with 2.8, 60lbers and a tune right off the bat instead of the 2.9 and 42lbers it wouldn't have been so bad =P. There is always something you can buy or mod on your car and it pretty much never ends haha. Once you think you are about done, something new comes out or something better which is great for our community. Make sure you support our vendors both ottp, zzp, and others.

But ya, once you get the new stuff installed and tuned I think you will be really happy and that it will hold you off for awhile. You shouldn't have to get into serious engine mods, pistons, sleeves, cams, for a long time. A ported head though is always a great idea and instead of being the "last" thing on the list, it should be done much sooner in my opinion. The less boost you are running the easier it is on your motor/internals. If you can make more power with less boost it's always a win win situation. Ported head for the win.
